News That's Hard to Find for June 8, 2018

The Republican Establishment is Playing Us

Of course it is. The last thing McConnell and his cronies want to see is President Trump carrying out what we voters elected him to do. They’ve had their own little Emerald City for decades and will do anything to keep it. And it isn’t just the DimocRATs who are slow walking everything. A number of Repugents are doing the same.
Regardless of the president’s words, a core of his supporters (myself included) realized the damage that had been done. The next spending bill was set for September. If there’s one thing that the GOPe members hate more than Trump and his deplorable voters from Fly-Over Country, it is the prospect of a government shutdown. McConnell is not certain that Trump’s promise never to support another windfall for Washington, D.C. again was simply for show or if he was serious. Though, given the public consternation displayed by most of Trump’s most ardent supporters, it is likely that Trump was being serious. He will not want to disappoint them again.
By keeping the Senate in session over the summer, McConnell is hoping to get the proverbial jump on Trump over the issue of government spending. Also, McConnell knows that the lack of confirmations for President Trump’s appointments is a terrible threat to Republican chances going into the midterm election.
So they desperately stay in D.C. while finding every way they can to keep their seats. And, what about the House? Will they hang around or will Ryan send them home?

McConnell Waves Red Flag on Senate Immigration Bill
He says the Senate won’t consider anything the president doesn’t go along with. That’s in response to rebellious members of the House who’re forcing votes on a series of bills, some of which don’t meet what the president wants.
McConnell emphasized during his interview with Ingraham the Senate is "going to be here, confirming the president's nominees" while staying put in the nation's capital. The Senate majority leader berated his Democratic colleagues for deliberately "slow-walking" Trump's nominees and forcing cloture votes to end the debate swiftly.
"We've had to file cloture … to speed the [nomination] process up 101 times during President Trump's administration, to try to speed up the confirmation of his appointments," he said. "That's happened only 24 times in the first two years over the last six presidents."

US sailors lack basic ship handling skills

Slightly misleading headline. It’s the junior officers who lack basic skills. And, if they don’t know what they’re doing, how can they ensure enlisted personnel perform their duties properly. I then find myself asking where the noncoms are in this? Aren’t they supposed to be the ones “helping out” the junior officers in running a ship?
My next question is; what is the Naval Academy teaching them?
A three-month internal review conducted by the Surface Warfare Officer School selected junior officers in the fleet at random and subjected them to tests on computer simulators. Of the 164 officers tested, only 27 passed the test with “no concerns.” 108 passed with “some concerns,” while 29 had “significant concerns,” reported Defense News.
The tests found that officers struggled to operate radars, and understood but struggled to apply the international rules of the road for ships, especially in low-visibility conditions. They also found that while most officers could avoid close encounters with other ships, they were often ill-equipped to avoid collision when placed into imminent danger.

The Media Goes Wacko Over a Bottle of Water

They’ve become unhinged.
The president takes a bottle of water off the table and puts it on the floor. The vice president follows suit.
Is it some sinister secret code between the two?
This is completely, insanely, and psychologically disturbing.

Nikki Haley Tells the U.N. to Butt Out

The UN Human Rights Council condemned the USA for the way it enforces it immigration laws.
But what really seemed to irk Ambassador Haley when she got out of bed on Tuesday was the U.N.’s “hypocrisy by calling out the United States while it ignores the reprehensible human rights records of several members of its own Human Rights Council.” The HRC is a body that currently includes such bastions of enlightened humanitarianism as Afghanistan, China, Cuba, Ethiopia, Iraq, and Venezuela, to name just a few.

Just Who is Kim Jong-un?

He’s in the news almost every day. But, what exactly do we know about him other than his being the dictator of North Korea?
Did you know he attended an English language school in Switzerland? He actually attended two but little is known about him as he used an alias. Not a great academic but loved sports.
He is the third member of the Kim dynasty that has ruled the North since 1948. He’s clearly as cut-throat as his predecessors, the only way he can survive.
He’s married with at least one daughter although he doesn’t appear n public with her. He’s sometimes accompanied by his younger sister, Kim Yo-jung.
Like most dictators, he must keep the support of the military and many reports indicate he fears being away from the north to avoid a potential coup – although almost everyone around him appear to be doddering old men weighed down with “been there” medals.
As much as is known about him @ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kim_Jong-un

5 Worst Military Bases

Fortunately, I’ve never been assigned to any of these. If any of you have, comments are always welcome.

Afghanistan Leaders Are Still Corrupt As Hell

It’s part of their culture and there isn’t a thing western forces can do about it. We either accept it or do what we should’ve done years ago – get out!
Afghan officials are behind.
That’s a suspect turnaround.
What’s the problem? There are five problems, and they’re all bureaucratic garbage!
Things don’t look good in the long run.
According to the global corruption index maintained by Transparency International, Afghanistan ranks 177 out of 180 in terms of public perceptions of corruption — just above war-torn Syria, war-torn South Sudan, and war-torn Somalia. Something tells me another trillion bucks over another 17 years probably won’t help fix that problem.

Scientists Breeding Sheep that Burp Less

Probably to sell in California that now checks out cow farts.
See? Not all the news is dull and dark.
