News That's Hard to Find for June 5, 2018

"The Republican Party is kind of taking a nap somewhere."
So bemoans one of the party’s ex-big wigs. Poor little Boehner. Remember him? Seems his fellow GOPers lost faith In him so he resigned – to get a job for $400k with a tobacco company. Where does he find the time to address politicians?
"There is no Republican Party. There's a Trump party," John Boehner told a Mackinac, Michigan, gathering of the GOP faithful last week.
In other words, all those life-long party apparatchiks are treading water, trying to figue out what they’re supposed to do.

103 Republican Women Are Running For Congress This Election Cycle

I’m personally pleased to see more women getting involved in national politics. About time to put cracks in the Old Boy Network. Give an entirely different outlook on how Congress works.
49 women candidates in House, Senate, and state-wide elections have received an endorsement from Maggie’s List:
Shorey, however, stressed that it’s about the quality, not quantity, of the female candidates — and knowing when someone is a good fit for a race.
Does she have a path victory? And does she have a background that will lend itself to victory as well? Those things have to be there,” Shorey said. “Then you encourage that woman, help them raise money and endorse them in a public way.”
While the Democrats concentrate on sex, race, and sexual orientation, it’s crucial that selection of the correct people happen on the merits and not on the above-mentioned criteria. I don’t know about you, but I don’t look at the race, sex, or sexual orientation of candidates. I look at their platform. Diversity is great, but if you have a horrid platform and a sketchy corrupt background the answer from me is ‘no.’

WH Announces Seven Names Being Considered For Key Admin. Posts

Let’s see who long and hard the DimocRATs will obstruct these. Past the midterms? What happens if GOP numbers increase in both houses?
Karen Dunn Kelley is up for deputy secretary of commerce, and Veronica Daigle for the next assistant secretary of defense for readiness.
Casey Wardynski, is up to be an assistant secretary of the Army.
Brian Nichols is in line to become the ambassador to the republic of Zimbabwe at the State Department.
Michael Pack is also a leading contender to be CEO of the Broadcasting Board of Governors, and Geoffrey Starks is set to takeover as FCC Commissioner.
Additionally, Elad Roisman is tapped for commissioner of the securities and exchange commission.
And don’t forget all the judicial nominations they’re sitting on.

Pres. Trump Considering Killing NAFTA, Creating 2 Separate Deals

Do ya think? What do most of us know about NAFTA? Free trade between the three countries? What’s wrong with that?
Well, seems it isn’t what it seems to be on the outside. I’ve been reading articles where Canada isn’t happy with “softwood trade” - pine and stuff with us. Mexican farmers say they’re losing money on corn and avocados. Then there’s the deal about petroleum products. A whole lot of deep economic stuff must of us shrug our shoulders at.
The president told reporters Friday he is considering drafting two separate deals, one with Canada and another with Mexico.
He said the two countries are completely different, and therefore a combined trade deal does not work.
The president slammed NAFTA as one of the worst deals in U.S. history, adding the U.S. is losing billions to our neighbors.
This comes as Canada, Mexico, and the EU have all voiced outrage over the Trump administration’s recently imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.
In response, President Trump said our allies have been taking advantage of the American worker for decades and it needs to stop.

Parents Look to Home Schooling As Leftists Take Over Public Schools
Part of it is the school shootings. But more of it comes from a kickback against Leftist agendas. Parents no longer tolerate their children being propagandized and want them to learn what matters.
The homeschooling movement has ballooned from 1.5 million to estimates of more than 2 million now. Since most states aren’t required to count the number of homeschooling families, it’s still a guessing game. But there’s one thing everyone agrees on: more parents are making the leap — and fast.

DNA Findings Questions Theory of Evolution

The sweeping gene survey found that nine out of 10 species present on Earth today, including humans, entered the scene some 100,000 to 200,000 years ago.
Oh yeah? Just what does that mean? That maybe there’s something to the Genesis creation narrative?
Now don’t get me wrong. There’s definitive truth about earth’s history, especially as seen by the rocks here in the Nevada desert which clearly show the various ages. They just didn’t appear all at one time. But, what about the lack of biodiversity in many creatures. Minor changes occur but the general genome stays the same.
Makes one wonder, doesn’t it?

Some 83,000 members of the U.S. military are missing.

Since WWII.
I had no idea it was that many. Not just on land but at sea. That a government agency exists to find them is no mystery. The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency sends out teams based upon whatever records they can find. It appears to be a daunting task.
The project began after the Vietnam War, when families of missing soldiers pressured the government to figure out what had become of their loved ones. Hundreds of remains from that conflict have since been found and returned to relatives. “Because of that success, later on Congress added the Korean War,” says Kelly McKeague, a former Air Force major general who is director of the DPAA. “Then other families started asking, ‘What about us?’”
The agency is now officially tasked with providing “the fullest possible accounting” of the fates of missing personnel from the Second World War through today’s conflicts. As many as 39,000 of the total were lost at sea, and the agency does not expect to ever recover their remains. But that still leaves a staggering caseload.
Many searches begin in musty archives and digital databases. DPAA historians and archivists pore over battle reports, flight and ship logs, and other documents to figure out where those soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen are likely to have actually died. The Hot as Hell crash site, though, was handed to the agency: Clayton Kuhles, an Arizona mountaineer and self-appointed MIA hunter, found some of the plane’s wreckage with the help of a local guide in 2006.

Canadian Indians Teed Off at Refugees

Indigenous peoples’ leader Jenna Wirch
It’s further colonization,” Wirch said of refugee resettlement. “We [Indigenous people] are further being displaced from our lands, from our food, from our waters. And it’s wrong.”
So things aren’t all sweetness and light for our neighbors to the north. (I have no doubt the same holds true to the south.)
Many arrived in Manitoba, whose capital Winnipeg has the largest Indigenous population of any Canadian city. The city also faces problems with violence, drugs and homelessness. [So of course it is the perfect place to insert Middle Eastern refugees!—-ed]

Muslim Refugees So Far in 2018

Burmese Muslims (Rohingya)
Today I checked Wrapsnet (FY18 data) for the Muslim refugee numbers and learned this:
The percentage of Muslims entering as refugees is way down compared to Bush and Obama years.  It now stands at 15% when it was approaching 50% under Barack Hussein Obama.
(Total admissions so far 14,321 and 2,184 are listed as Muslims of some sect or another.)
But then, he reports that we admitted 484 refugees from Afghanistan along with 8,490 Special Immigrant Visa holders/families in the last 8 months! Tick! Tock!
That seems to be a lot until you realize they are Iraqis and Afghanis who helped and/or supported US activities. These are people whose lives in their homelands have become untenable because of their association with US forces. They helped us and, IMHO, deserve what we can do for them.

60 Percent of U.S. Military ‘Train and Equip’ Projects Failed

I bet the morale is lower than whale poop. You bust your butt and do your best – for nothing!
According to a report Wednesday from the government accountability office, the Global Train and Equip program was not successful in enhancing the capabilities of individual forces in 13 of 21 projects.
While the assessment describes some positive outcomes, the military spent some $2 billion on the program in 2016 and 2017.
According to the watchdog, misuse of equipment, manpower shortages, and flawed project proposal designs all contributed to a low success rate of operations.

Don’t Want to Smoke Grass Anymore? Drink it!

C’mon now. Just what we need. A low-cal Cannabis beer. Or cocktail. No more smoker’s breath.
Cocktails, beer, coffee and tea — along with specially designed vape devices — are in the works. None will create the notorious stench or clouds of smoke associated with marijuana and they will offer non-smokers more choices, beyond the edible cannabis products already on the market.

Who is DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz?
A very interesting article with lots and lots of links. Did you know there are actually 73 Inspector Generals? Horowitz was nominated in 2011 by Obama to be DOJ IG. He’s been at odds with that administration ever since.
Two months after his Senate Judiciary FARA testimony, IG Horowitz launched Oversight.gov on October 1, 2017. It represents an impressive effort to increase transparency – and direct public disclosure.

Raiders have spent $172M so far on Las Vegas stadium project

Seems there’s no question the team’s coming to Vegas.
The Raiders recently reported the team has spent $172.4 million, 19 percent of its commitment, on the stadium project. Another $43.6 million, or 22 percent of the total commitment, has been paid by the NFL’s G-4 loan program, and $30.6 million, or 4 percent, of the public’s $750 million contribution has been spent to date.
The stadium is scheduled to be completed in two years, in time for the 2020 NFL and UNLV football seasons.

Fascinating maps reveal the literal translations of every country in the world

Six maps to give you chuckles. You should take the time to check them out.
Most people would say they've never heard of the 'Land of Many Rabbits', the 'Place of Pomegranates' or the country called 'Hippotamus'.
But it turns out they are actually the literal translations of Spain, Grenada and Mali.
I’d personally be interested in discovering similar information for the sub-entities in each country. Such as what the various shires in England stand for. Or each state in the USA.

The stuff that turns up on this website is the most fascinating I come across in the 400+ I go through daily.
If the following doesn’t give you nightmares, I don’t know what will.
