The News You Won't Easily Find for April 6, 2018








I've been neglecting this (and my other blog) for some time. It's not because I don't care or have anything to say, it's just that I've been very busy at other things.

I'm not going to hide the fact that I voted for President Donald J. Trump and support him as much as I possibly can. Because of the constant barrage of attacks against him, his family, and his administration, I've taken to spending almost every day scanning blogs along with news and opinion sites using Google+ and Feedly to see what else the world is saying about politics, current events, and many other things.

At the end of that time, I post items I find that are outside the common "media feed" on two websites, USMessage Board and ThePoliticsForum.

What I've decided to do is also share those items with you and those on Google+.

So, here goes the first day of many posts to follow. I hope you not only enjoy but find them interesting.


The Omnibus Bill Isn't a Done Deal

Seems the president has a loophole for stuff he - and his supporters - don't want. The 1974 Impoundment Act.

The Impoundment Control Act allows the president to ask Congress to rescind funds that have been allocated in the budget. Congress is not required to vote on the request, but if they do agree to vote, a simple majority in both chambers is all that is needed to approve cuts the president requests.

Congress has 45 days to approve any or all rescission requests from the president.

Did the president know this when he signed the act? One has to wonder.

Wanna bet what the political reaction will be? Of course. Raise the taxes on single-family homes. Make it cost so much that you'll be forced to move and the area can be rebuilt in apartment buildings.

With so much, I firmly believe we should be doing more to convert vehicles to use it. It's cleaner, cheaper, and requires less maintenance.

The impressive growth last year was likely just the beginning. The Cove Point LNG terminal’s exports are not reflected in the 2017 growth, as its first cargo went out in 2018. Four additional LNG export terminals are scheduled to come into service in the coming years, and they will increase total export capacity to 9.6 billion cubic feet per day by the end of 2019. By that time, U.S. LNG export capacity will be more than six times higher than it was in latter half of 2016.

If there was ever a reason for real Americans to turn out for the mid-terms and support GOP conservatives, this is it. It's YOUR money. YOU have a right to keep it to spend it as YOU wish. Not theirs.

If previous proposals are any indication, Pelosi plans on instituting a major tax hike, particularly focused on punishing those same generous corporations. In a plan published last month, Congressional Democrats proposed a $1 trillion dollar tax hike, pushing the corporate tax rate from its current 21% to 25%, undoing tax breaks for high earners, and re-instituting a top tax bracket that could tax some Americans at a rate of nearly 40%.

What Mueller Was Appointed To Do Was Changed Later by Rosenstein

I've been reading this all over the web and decided it was time to take a good look at it. Here is the original order from May 2017:

In Order No. 3915-2017, Mueller was appointed with a specific mandate, to continue an investigation started by James Comey into Russian interference in the election:
(a) Robert S. Mueller III is appointed to serve as Special Counsel for the United States Department of Justice.
(b) The Special Counsel is authorized to conduct the investigation confirmed by then-FBI Director James B. Comey in testimony before the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence on March 20, 2017, including:
(i) any links and/or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign of President Donald Trump; and
(ii) any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation; and
(iii) any other matters within the scope of 28 C.F.R. § 600.4(a).
(c) If the Special Counsel believes it is necessary and appropriate, the Special Counsel is authorized to prosecute federal crimes arising from the investigation of these matters.
And then comes this:

The August 2, 2017 memo was classic boostrapping. It purported to confirm Mueller’s authority to go after Manafort’s business dealings, but Mueller already was doing that and had been doing it for weeks, culminating in the July 26 home raid.

So to the extent the Rosenstein August 2, 2017 memorandum is supposed to instill confidence that Mueller is receiving proper DOJ oversight, it does just the opposite. As least as to the portion revealed about Manafort, it shows a willingness to give post hoc justification for conduct of Mueller that does not appear authorized by the text of the original May 17 appointing Order.

In other words, Mueller can just about do anything he wants and Rosenstein will cover for him - with Sessions doing absolutely nothing about it!

I mean, there's a lot of room out there but it still means stuff can either fall on our heads or into things we don't want them to like the International Space Station.

The debris comes in a variety of forms: rocket shells, spacecraft that have lost communication, screws, etc. According to the NASA, even a fleck of paint traveling at 17,500 mph poses a hazard to future missions in the event of a collision.

When it comes to the debris, size matters. As of 2013, more than 20,000 pieces of junk larger than a softball were in orbit, 500,000 pieces the size of a marble or larger and "many millions of pieces of debris that are so small they can't be tracked," according to NASA.

What Place Does the Preamble Have in Constitutional Law?

I'd never really thought about this until I came across this article in The Originalism Blog. [It tries to define exactly what the Founders meant when they laid out our God given rights] The words are clear and simple:

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

According to this lengthy article filled with all sorts of legalese, there was a case in 1905 where the then SCOTUS indicated these words did not play an important role in interpreting the Constitution.

Now, I am not in any way, shape, or form, a legal scholar. But, this causes me to realize something - the president has a huge opportunity to shift the focus of the Supreme Court for decades to come by appointing justices who will ty to abide by the original intentions of the Founders when they wrote and ratified this document.



Texas Megachurch Eliminates the Medical Debts of More Than 4,200 Families

I know the atheists will instantly slam this as a publicity stunt. How gives a damn? I think it;'s great. More than four thousand families will sleep easier and perhaps no longer face foreclosures or bankruptcies.

And it was for veterans and their families!

The church donated the cash to RIP Medical Debt and asked the company to pay off medical debts for local veterans and families.
Right now, there is no veteran in our radius where we minister that will have [medical] debt from this day forward,” Hayes told KXAS-TV. “It is already paid. Really cool.”

Can you imagine the clamor from the media if Chris Christie had done this? Or any Republican?

New Jersey's newly minted Democratic governor spent $13,000 of taxpayer funds to create an office for his wife, who has no constitutional role in state government, down the hall from his own.

And it stinks. So bad people can't open their doors and can't go outside without covering their noses and faces. And temperatures are only in the 70s right now.

What happens when the temperatures rise?

Well, well. It seems the Philippines president is not exactly a fan of UN Human Rights Commissioner Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein.

I thought senior world politicians were steeped in the moors of tact and diplomacy? But, that isn't all our good Duerte had to say.

"Look, you have a big head but it’s empty. There is no gray matter between your ears. It’s hollow. It’s empty. It cannot even sustain a nutrient for your hair to grow because his hair here is gone,"

Mexican Drug Dealers Agree To Stop Murdering Political Candidates If They Stop Cheating In Elections

This headline brought me up short. What?

A deal brokered by a Catholic bishop.



Bishop Salvador Rangel Mendoza tells reporters he brokered the truce after holding a meeting on Good Friday with cartel members following the assassinations of 11 political candidates - several in the town of Chilapa. His relationship with the criminals was made public this year, however he had reportedly opened a dialogue nearly two years ago when he intervened in the capture of a priest. 

Wonder if this could happen elsewhere in this corrupt, crime-ridden nation.
