Treasury denies Democrats' request for Trump tax returns
Mnuchin told Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal, D-Mass., in a Monday letter that the panel's request "lacks a legitimate legislative purpose" as Supreme Court precedent requires.
In making that determination, Mnuchin said he relied on the advice of the Justice Department. He concluded that the Treasury Department is "not authorized to disclose the requested returns and return information." He said the Justice Department will provide a more detailed legal justification soon.
Dims boiling President Trump chuckling. A lot of us saying, “Told ya so.”

Restaurants Closing in 2019
Another irritating Yahoo “go to the next page” article.
Here’s just a few on the list:
Carl’s Jr.
Starbuck’s [where they aren’t building new ones like in Vegas]
iHop
Subway
Applebee’s
Ruby Tuesday’s [Never been to one]

Trump pardons former Army Ranger convicted of killing Iraqi prisoner
He was doing his duty in a war, for God’s sake!
Thank you once again Mister President.
White House press secretary Sarah Sanders wrote in a statement that upon his release from jail in 2014, "Dozens of Patriot Guard motorcycle riders met Mr. Behenna to escort him back to his home in Oklahoma." She added that "Behenna's case has attracted broad support from the military, Oklahoma elected officials, and the public" and he was a "model prisoner."
Now, if he would only step in and put a stop to the farcial treatment of the Navy SEAL!

Obama Took Trump’s 2016 Win As A Personal Insult
Gee whiz, that really breaks my heart.
Of course it was an insult. 63+ million voters told the Kenyan muckraker that they were sick and tired of his efforts to turn America into a 3rd World sheithole. They were disgusted with corrupt politicians and wanted someone who owed loyalty to nobody but them.
The new details come from a recently released update to New York Times Chief White House Correspondent Peter Baker’s book Obama: The Call of History.
The new edition, which includes Obama’s reaction to the 2016 election, said Obama compared himself to Michael Corleone, the titular character of “The Godfather.” Obama thought he “almost got out” of office untouched, like a mob boss avoiding a hit job.
Obama found himself shocked by the election results, thinking before Nov. 8 there was “no way Americans would turn on him” and “[h]is legacy, he felt, was in safe hands.”

Lawyer claims helmet camera clears SEAL accused of killing ISIS fighter
I don’t understand why Navy bigwigs are so hell bent on prosecuting this guy. Is there something beyond this that nobody’s reporting?
The civilian attorney for Navy SEAL Chief Eddie Gallagher said he will show lawmakers video footage on Wednesday that destroys prosecutors' case against his client.
Gallagher is accused of killing a wounded ISIS fighter during the 2017 battle for Mosul, but helmet camera footage from other members of his platoon show Gallagher actually tried to save the fighter's life, said Timothy Parlatore.
"It shows that Chief Gallagher's immediate reaction was not to murder him but rather to help him," Parlatore told Task & Purpose on Monday. "After all that, why would he take out his knife and stab him?"

CAIR Director Claims Muslims Are “Above The Law Of The Land.”
The goal of Islam is not in question. Nor are those organizations that follow it. At every level, their dedication to the Koran and the teachings of their religious leaders call for subjugating the US Constitution for Sharia.
According to Herman Mustafa Carroll, leader of CAIR in Dallas-Fort Worth, Muslims are not bound to US law because they are Muslims.
If we are practicing Muslims, we are above the law of the land,” he says.
Well, he’s not lying about what Muslims actually believe. Sure, there may be law-abiding, patriotic American Muslims, but plenty of adherents to the faith of Islam in this country feel exactly the same way as Carroll does.
And why wouldn’t they? They pledge allegiance to the political system of Sharia, which is fundamentally opposed to our American constitution.
Carroll made this statement at an Austin, Texas rally as part of an effort to hold “Muslim Capitol Day” events. According to the website for the event, Muslims traveled to the Texas capitol to “promote civic and political activism throughout the wider Muslim community.”
We tried to downplay Sharia, because we didn’t want to give the other side any excitement for being here,” he said.

US job openings jumped to nearly 7.5 million in March
Employers are begging for minimally qualified applicants. Many are offering paid on-the-job training.
U.S. employers advertised almost 7.5 million jobs at the end of March, a solid figure that signals hiring will likely remain strong in the months ahead.
The Labor Department says job openings rose 4.8% from the previous month, while the number of people quitting their jobs slipped. There are now 1.2 million more open jobs than there are unemployed Americans, a dynamic that suggests businesses will have to keep raising pay to attract and keep the workers they need.
The figures underscore the ongoing strong demand for labor that exists among U.S. companies, as the recovery nears the end of its 10th year. On Friday, the government said that employers added a surprisingly high 263,000 jobs in April, while the unemployment rate fell to a nearly 50-year low of 3.6%.

Afghan convention calls for withdrawal of foreign troops, cease-fire with Taliban
One more reason why we should get the heck out of there. Now!
We’ve spent more than 15 years and too much blood for a people who will never, ever change they way they live and govern themselves.
A convention of regional Afghan leaders adopted a road-map on Friday for peace talks with the Taliban that includes a call for the withdrawal of foreign troops and a cease-fire during the holy month of Ramadan.
The traditional gathering of elders — known as Loya Jirga — began [last] Monday with more than 3,200 politicians, tribal heads and prominent members of society to hammer out a shared strategy for future negotiations with the Taliban.
The five-day talks resulted in a 23-point list meant to express what the Afghan people want out of any talks with the insurgents. The body’s decisions are not legally binding but carry great political significance.
The convention’s demands include calls for the Afghan government to create a timeline for the “responsible withdrawal” of foreign forces from the country.

More US troops bound for Poland
I wonder how many know that we have troops there. And that we’ve had forces there since 2018.
This caught my eye for a personal reason. As I related in one of my blogs, I was stationed in Southern France in 1958 to 1960. Base security was provided by Polish guards, men who had sided with the US during WWII. They had a club that was open to all and I will never forget the times I spent there eating their great food and drinking beer. Great people and clearly happy with the USA.
So now we’ve got troops in their country.
I wonder if they’re being met with the same friendliness as I and my companions were.
The U.S. and Poland are in talks on boosting the number of American troops in the country, with a final agreement expected before year’s end, Poland’s top defense official said Thursday.
Everything seems to indicate that we will conclude negotiations with the United States this year,” Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak told Polish media. “There will be an increase in the presence of U.S. troops in Poland.”
For months, military and diplomatic officials have worked on a deal in connection with Warsaw’s offer to spend up to $2 billion to fund a permanent U.S. base.

New Politics Leadership Academy – calling veterans to run for office
This article from Military.com deals with 3 members of the military who are reflecting on running for office after attending an “Answering the call” group sessions run by the NPLA.
It is clearly a nonpartisan organization that seeks to put more veterans into public office.
New Politics has been instrumental in helping to elect veterans, including Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Massachusetts, a former Marine who is now among the crowded field running for the Democratic presidential nomination.
New Politics has also aided Rep. Mikie Sherrill, D-New Jersey, a Navy veteran; Rep. Mike Gallagher, R-Wisconsin, a Marine veteran; and Rep. Max Rose, D-New York, an Army veteran.
According to the article; The total number of veterans in Congress is 96 -- 30 Democrats and 66 Republicans; the total number is down by six because of older veterans retiring.
That’s only 18% compared to the 70s when two-thirds were vets.

Here’s a bit of personal view on veterans running for office:
One doesn’t have to run for office to make major changes in politics.
One just needs to get involved.
And that doesn’t mean donating money.
The best way is at the level closest to you – the local ward. Check your voter registration and it indicates the ward and district you are in. There are organizations at each level and it’s easy to stick your toe in the water. Attend a meeting. Volunteer to help. Become known to the regulars. Get your friends who think the same as you to also help out. It’s from these levels that delegates are selected to larger conventions. If you get known at one level, you can move up to the next.
These are where candidates are sought and financial assistance is brought into play. If you do want to run, start small. Go for town or city councils or boards. Work you way up from there.
If you don’t believe it, give it a try.

Trump’s Jobs Problem Is Exact Opposite of Obama’s: Not Enough Workers for Explosive Growth

100% recyclable plastics
A separate study, published in Nature on April 16, is the first study "to confirm a significant increase in open ocean plastics in recent decades," going back nearly 60 years. Researchers found a plastic bag that had been snared on Ireland's coast since 1965 and is possibly the first piece of plastic pollution ever found, according to the BBC.
That study was based off a 2015 investigation that estimated there were between 4.8 trillion and 12.7 trillion pieces of plastic entering the ocean every year.
Is the human mind capable of comprehending that staggering amount?
12.7 TRILLION.
I live in Vegas where $100 are as common as $20s. I’ve had $25,000 in my possession but trying to comprehend a million is hard, let alone trillions.
The major point here is that scientists have found a way to make plastics that completely disintegrate. Allowing every piece to be completely recycled.
Plastic pollution in the world's oceans may have a $2.5 trillion impact, negatively affecting "almost all marine ecosystem services," including areas such as fisheries, recreation and heritage. But a breakthrough from scientists at Berkeley Lab could be the solution the planet needs for this eye-opening problem – recyclable plastics.
The study, published in Nature Chemistry, details how the researchers were able to discover a new way to assemble the plastics and reuse them "into new materials of any color, shape, or form."
Most plastics were never made to be recycled,” said lead author Peter Christensen, a postdoctoral researcher at Berkeley Lab’s Molecular Foundry, in the statement. “But we have discovered a new way to assemble plastics that takes recycling into consideration from a molecular perspective.”

Trump About to Flip Another Appeals Court To Conservatives
And judicial appointment just keep rolling along. He’s already got over 100 on various benches and flipped the Third Circuit Court conservative.
As Bloomberg Law reports, on Wednesday the Senate confirmed Joseph Bianco to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Another judge, Michael Park, is expected to be confirmed later this week. Bloomberg noted, “When Trump makes additional appointments for vacancies that will be left by two judges who recently announced their retirements, Dennis Jacobs and Christopher Droney, the 13-member court will be majority Republican-appointed.”
And, in spite of some opposition, he’s just filled 3 seats on the Import/Export Bank.

Solar panels too toxic for landfills.
And, in areas where solar farms are located, the possibility that toxic chemicals can be washed out of the panels should be of serious concern to locals. Take Fawn Lake in Virginia, where theounds of cadmium contained in the 1.8 million panels,” Sean Fogarty of Concerned Citizens of Faw construction of a solar farm ran into serious opposition from local residents.
We estimate there are 100,000 pn Lake said.
Leaching from broken panels damaged during natural events — hail storms, tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, etc. — and at decommissioning is a big concern.”
Wait a minute. Aren’t they supposed to save the planet?
Seems the hype isn’t turning out exactly as the eco-freaks want.

We Will Soon Be Building 256 Miles Of Border Wall, ½ Mile Per Day…
More promises kept.
Equally controversial is the administration’s troop deployment to the Southern border. And Shanahan told appropriators there are now 4,364 Guard and active-duty troops on the border.
Shanahan defended the deployments as not affecting military readiness, but he and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Joe Dunford added the Pentagon lent staff, including a two-star general, to the Homeland Security Department to help coordinate a “more predictable comprehensive plan” for controlling the border.
My only disappointment is that all the troops are only there to babysit illegals invading out country. I’d like to see even more, all well-armed and physically repelling the horde descended upon us. No nice tent cities by concertina-wire cages where the non-Latin America scum are rounded up before being boarded on airplanes to be sent back to where they came from.

Sheep enrolled at school in France
I just couldn’t pass this by. Far too funny to ignore.
Baa, Baa, Black Sheep...have you completed your homework?
A farmer in France has taken a unique idea to boost student numbers at a primary school, enrolling 15 sheep to save classes that were at risk of being cancelled.
Herder Michel Girerd, with the help of his dog, escorted 50 sheep in tow on Tuesday, 15 of which are now registered as students after showing their birth certifications, according to Sky News.
Among the new students at the Jules Ferry school include: Baa-bete, Dolly, and Saute-Mouton.
French law requires a minimum of 24 students to each class and they were short the 15 to keep things going.
