Life Without Corn, Amazing UCLA Gymnast, and lots of news and interesting stuff for January 25, 2019

Some best possible outcomes of the shutdown
At the end of 30 days, the president through OMB could call for a “reduction in force” to remove 350,000 nonessential federal employees.
Most of my career colleagues actively work against the president’s agenda,” the official wrote. “This means I typically spend about 15 percent of my time on the president’s agenda and 85 percent of my time trying to stop sabotage, and we have no power to get rid of them. Until the shutdown.”
President Trump can end this abuse,” the official continued. “Senior officials can re-prioritize during an extended shutdown, focus on valuable results and weed out the saboteurs. We do not want most employees to return, because we are working better without them.”
The laid-off workers would scream, they would cry, they would certainly sue. And they might even prevail in the lower courts. But the Supreme Court would have the last word. How do you suppose that will go?
The simple fact remains that Trump is president. He runs the executive branch. He gets to make policy. He can be checked by Congress and the courts, but he has certain constitutional prerogatives — prerogatives that his predecessors exercised without issue — that don’t go away just because his name is “Trump.”
Maxine goes nuts, calls for Trump to be impeached over debunked BuzzFeed report
If it wasn’t so funny, it would be tragic. We’re in for this every day until Jan 2021.
He didn’t say, for example, that it’s an absolute lie, that it is absolutely not true,” Waters said. “The way he framed it, he made it sound as if there were some problems with the way that BuzzFeed did it, but it did not absolutely close out the possibility that what BuzzFeed is saying has a lot of truth to it.”
Waters went on to say Trump “had” to be removed from office, yet she provided no evidence to support her pipe dreams.
Why should we worry about the truth?

And Tucker Carlson just showed montages of “bombshell” and “impeachment.”
Lindsay Graham’s Going to Investigate Obamas-Era Scandal
Not just senators on the Judiciary Committee and other Dims are furious that Graham is going to investigate Shrillary and FISA warrants.
Graham told reporters earlier this month that he would do a “deep dive into the FISA issue” as chairman of the Judiciary Committee. And he told Fox News last month that he believed the FBI “phoned in” the Clinton probe and were “in the tank” for the Democratic presidential candidate.

Dem Rep. Neguse: ‘No Question’ Brett Kavanaugh Committed Perjury, Faces Investigation
Ohmahgawd! Does the Dimocrap madness never stop? Just what the hell does this jerk think he can accomplish by investigating something to clearly false?
Rep. Joe Neguse (D-CO), a freshman congressman who sits on the House Judiciary Committee, asserted recently that Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh unequivocally committed perjury during his confirmation process and will likely be investigated for the purported act.
There’s no question [Justice Kavanaugh] committed perjury during the confirmation hearings and so forth,” Neguse replied when asked by a supporter about potential plans to impeach the Trump-appointed jurist last Friday. “I think the Judiciary Committee is likely to take that up.”

Senate GOP eyes ‘nuclear option’ for Trump nominees next week
The House can play its games and the Senate will play its.
In this case, the president can nominate a whole lot of people to fill the 100 plus vacancies in the federal judiciary and the Senate will quickly confirm them.
Changes that will last decades and turn around the downward slide of federal judges.
Sen. Todd Young (R-Ind.), the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, told radio host Hugh Hewitt on Monday that the Senate could turn to the proposed rules change after they try to take up Trump’s proposal to reopen the federal government, which is likely to be blocked by Democrats.
I support the move, because Democrats have been in an historical fashion violating precedence about the number of hours in which one debates noncontroversial nominees that have been reported out of different committees of jurisdiction,” Young said, when asked about using the “nuclear option.”
He added that Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) had made the argument to Republicans that without a rules change, “there will be no way for this president or for future presidents … to populate their administration with their own people.”

Is the DemocRAT Wall Crumbling?
I will never forget the view of Pelosi chastising one of the fellow Dims for applauding something President Trump said during his first State of the Union address. It clearly showed the power she had over her caucus.
But, it appears she and Senator Schumer may no longer have the iron rule they once did. She even had some of her own vote against her Speaker-ship.
But as the partial government shutdown drags on and federal workers miss paychecks, some Democratic lawmakers are beginning to cave.
Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, admitted Sunday on ABC News’ “This Week” that he would support some border wall construction on some portions of the U.S.-Mexico border.
I’m saying that we will sit with the chief, the president, and whomever, and we will work through it,” Thompson (pictured above right) said when asked about his willingness to negotiate on reopening the government.
I will not rule out a wall in certain instances,” Thompson told ABC News’ Martha Raddatz. “Now the notion that we can’t have barriers is just something that’s just not true, but again, Martha, you have to have a plan and the plan that the president initially started with is not where he is now, and so we don’t know where he will be tomorrow.”
Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-N.J.) reluctantly expressed a willingness, too, to consider border wall funding — but only if Trump agreed to extend permanent protections to dreamers. Malinowski made his comments on CNN’s “New Day” on Monday.

Thousands of Migrants Crossing Remote Section of New Mexico Border
Nah, we don’t need a wall. Or any barrier for that matter. Do what Pelosi and her cohorts want, let them all through – and give them the right to vote.
El Paso Sector Border Patrol officials report that at least 2,500 migrants illegally crossed the border along a small section of the New Mexico Border. The migrants crossed the border this fiscal year as part of large groups of Central American families and unaccompanied minors near the Antelope Wells Port of Entry.

Pentagon Has Bad News About Its Bases
I note that our local bases here in Southern Nevada are facing drought conditions. No surprise, they’re located in the desert!
The January 2019 report, “Report on Effects of a Changing Climate to the Department of Defense,” was submitted to Congress Thursday without an official announcement of the report or a public release. Several environmental organizations made the report publicly available early Friday.
Not one Marine base is included in the report. Wonder why?

5 Unforgettable Quotes From R. Lee Ermey
I certainly have nothing against the Gunney. I never understood how he made such a big career of being a Marine when he only served a bit over 10 years. I did enjoy everything he did.
"You know what makes me sad? You do! Maybe we should chug on over to namby-pamby land, where maybe we can find some self confidence for you, ya jackwagon!" Ermey says in the ad spot, before flinging a box of tissues at his client. Unorthodox, sure. Funny as hell? Also, yes.

The Real United Nations
This is what it is supposed to do, according to those who founded it:
This came from Alice Bailey, a woman born in England who put on show attempts at suicide before she was 15. She founded the Lucius Trust, which is a member of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations under a program called World Goodwill. Lucis Trust is a powerful institution that enjoys ‘Consultative Status’ with the United Nations, which permits it to have a close working relationship with the UN, including a seat on the weekly sessions, but most importantly, influence with powerful business and national leaders throughout the world.

What Life Is Like When Corn Is off the Table
I was amazed to learn just how much of what we eat today has corn in it. It makes me wonder what food was like in the Old World before Spaniards arrived in the New World to find the popular grain that originated in Mexico.
Table salt?
Bottled water?
The list is going to astonish you.
When Christine Robinson was first diagnosed with a corn allergy 17 years ago, she remembers thinking, “No more popcorn, no more tacos. I can do this.”
Then she tried to put salt on her tomatoes. (Table salt has dextrose, a sugar derived from corn.) She tried drinking bottled iced tea. (It contains citric acid, which often comes from mold grown in corn-derived sugar.) She tried bottled water. (Added minerals in some brands can be processed with a corn derivative.) She ultimately gave up on supermarket meat (sprayed with lactic acid from fermented corn sugars), bagged salads (citric acid, again), fish (dipped in cornstarch or syrup before freezing), grains (cross-contaminated in processing facilities), fruits like apples and citrus (waxed with corn-derived chemicals), tomatoes (ripened with ethylene gas from corn), milk (added vitamins processed with corn derivatives). And that’s not even getting to all the processed foods made with high-fructose corn syrup, modified food starch, xanthan gum, artificial flavorings, corn alcohol, maltodextrin—all of which are or contain derivatives of corn.
Thank good corn allergies are so rare. I’m sure glad I don’t have it.

Eat what you want and STOP worrying!
At last! A book about eating that tears apart all the garbage we’ve been told about what to eat. Check these out:
MYTH: All sugar is poison and must be avoided
MYTH: I can get by without carbs
MYTH: Dairy is fattening, alternatives are better
MYTH: A vegan diet is the ideal for good health
As for the healthiest diet of all? Turns out it’s much simpler than you thought. Luci says: ‘Eat in moderation, eat more fruit and veg and drink more water. It’s not sexy, but it is a scientific fact.’

New Knee Shock Absorber
Lord but I want one of these! My doctor says knee replacement is out of the question. I’ve just about reached the point of totally being unable to walk.
Sadly, it’s only available in the UK. No word on whether or not the FDA is even considering it.

UCLA’s Katelyn Ohashi rediscovers her joy of gymnastics and becomes an internet sensation
Watching her routine can tell you that she puts a whole lot of strain on her body. And, like many athletes, she lived with pain all the time. That makes her performance all the more amazing.

Why Harley Davidson is Closing Plants
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry over this meme. It makes so much sense that one has to worry about the future of this nation with youth like these moving into positions of power.
We’ve already seen was the Hippie generation has produced in Pelosi, Feinstein, and the rest of those Leftist radicals.

Global Ocean warming and its impacts on the planet Earth in 2018
I’m positive that Mankind is definitely responsible for the warming of the oceans.
See? It’s all Manmade Climate Change.
Of course the sun has nothing to do with our planet’s weather or the temperature of the oceans.
According to this article, the hottest year on record is all our fault.

Why the Government is Shut Down, Critics Knock Trump, Syrian Women Want to Know Where Their Men are, and lots more for December 29, 2018

Trump's Presidency Has Changed Washington, Defied Convention
Exactly what we elected him to do!!!
And we’re supporting every further effort he makes to get rid of entrenched bureaucrats and blood-sucking politicians and lobbyists.
Mr. Trump went to Washington. And he changed it.
In his first two years in office, President Donald Trump has rewritten the rules of the presidency and the norms of the nation's capital, casting aside codes of conduct and traditions that have held for generations.
In Trump's Washington, facts are less relevant. Insults and highly personal attacks are increasingly employed by members of both parties. The White House press briefing is all but gone, international summits are optional, the arts are an afterthought and everything — including inherently nonpartisan institutions and investigations — is suddenly political.
Taking a wrecking ball to decorum and institutions, Trump has changed, in ways both subtle and profound, how Washington works and how it is viewed by the rest of the nation and world.

Why is the Government Shut Down?
It’s really easy to see how the budget process works for the executive branch. The president tells the various branches to submit a plan of what they need for the next year. The president goes over it and sends what he wants to the House and Senate. Both bodies have standing budget committees and they go over the figures and decide what can be spent. They write up and pass budget resolutions and send them to the president for his signature.
It should be noted that before President Trump was elected, the US operated for over a decade without an approved budget!
Major events and policy announcements on the budget:
President Donald Trump signed the first minibus, a $147 billion minibus bill that included funding for military construction and veterans’ affairs, the legislative branch, and energy and water, on September 21, 2018.
Notice how congress made sure it had its money to operate. And there’s nowhere on the net that I can find that tells how that money is determined. But, here’s the 2019 budget for the House @ https://appropriations.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=395271 for$1.2 billion. I can’t find one for the senate.
The judicial branch budget for 2019 is @ https://www.uscourts.gov/sites/default/files/fy_2019_congressional_budget_summary_final_0.pdf for $7.22 billion and it includes the entire federal judiciary.
The president signed a second minibus spending bill on September 28, 2018. The $854 billion bill included funding for the Departments of Defense, Health and Human Services (HHS), Labor, and Education. It also included a short-term stopgap bill to fund departments that were not funded through the appropriations process through December 7, 2018.
Legislators are also working on a third minibus spending bill to fund the departments of Interior, Treasury, Agriculture, Transportation, and Housing and Urban Development.
Legislators chose not to address funding for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, including Trump’s request for border wall funding, until after the midterm elections.
So, it’s the last budget bill that’s hung up in Congress. The government in the agencies in the 3rd bill are the ones who don’t have money to operate.
In other words, THE ENTIRE GOVERNMENT IS NOT SHUT DOWN!!!
And the 3rd included money for DHS, which is the department responsible for building the wall. That’s where the president has said enough. Don’t give him the money and he’ll let that part of the government shut down, sending the employees home.
A big note: 44,000 members of the Coast Guard are still performing their duties along with Border Patrol and I.C.E. agents.
I hope the whole thing now makes sense.
My question is; how long can this shutdown go on?

America’s Abysmal Divide Over President Trump
The political division in today’s America is deeper than the Mariana Trench.
And it seems to deepen every day the president does something to further his campaign promises.
Those who support him strengthen that support daily. They deeply believe in what he’s doing and wish him nothing but success.
On the other hand, the fervent, even unbalanced, hatred of the president strengthens every day too.
It’s deeply saddening.
I must admit that I had little respect for President Clinton and his adventures with women other than his wife.
I wanted to admire President Carter because of his naval service but quickly felt disappointment with his policies and actions. I deeply admire him today for his dedication to building homes for the needy.
I was disappointed with President Obama and freely admit to expressing my dislike for him on a frequent basis. I even admit to being a Birther and have a strong feeling that his Christianity was not real.
But, I never hated any of them. And certainly not similar to the hatred shown by Antifa, Democrats, or Progressives and Socialists.
I strongly believe in the adage; The vessel that contains hatred soon corrodes.
How can the haters go through their daily lives? How can they productively fulfill the requirements of their jobs? What kind of family lives do they have?
Is there even a sliver of joy in their lives?
Their hatred saddens me.
The final question is; will it ever end? Or is it only going to get worse?
What will the results be?
Too many questions and too few answers.

Adding to my Oped on the subject:
Why (Most) Right-Wing Intellectuals Hate Trump
Similarly, the anti-Trump right-wing intellectual bristles at a political system that does not “appropriately” value their “expertise” and “superior” knowledge and which, consequently, elevates a “buffoon” like Trump to the presidency—and on the shoulders of millions of those “deplorables,” no less. Anti-Trump right-wing intellectuals traffic in information, the gold standard in today’s world, something upon which we are ever-more reliant. Yet, in this arena, the American electorate defied them and their harebrained “proposals,” offered coercively, not through persuasion. Brazenly so. Thus, they resent the man who smashed their pretensions of politics-as-white-paper-drafting-session and roundly repudiated their perceived “right to rule.”
No wonder they hate him!

Critics Knocked Trump for Not Visiting Troops on Christmas
Oh yeah? Then how did these pictures of he and Melania [I don’t remember Moochelle ever going] at Al Asad Air Base near Baghdad in Iraq come about?
Additionally, the president, accompanied by National Security Adviser John Bolton, met with political and military leaders during his visit to Iraq.

Dems Delaying Confirmation of '350 Great People'
It’s not easy to find out just who those 350 are. From what I understand, they are a mix of judges and sub-department heads and agency chiefs. The clearest piece on this is a press release by Senator Alexander (R-Tenn) @ https://www.alexander.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/2017/5/sen-alexander-democrat-delays-could-cause-trump-to-bypass-senate-on-350-key-nominees
"The Democrats OBSTRUCTION of the desperately needed Wall, where they almost all recently agreed it should be built, is exceeded only by their OBSTRUCTION of 350 great people wanting & expecting to come into Government after being delayed for more than two years, a U.S. record!" he added.

No, Trump Didn’t Reveal A ‘Covert’ Navy SEAL Team In Iraq
Another bullpoop report by an anti-Trump Newsweek reporter. I watched the video and didn’t see a single thing that would have outed a covert mission or outed members of a SEAL team.
The media stumbles all over itself trying to find negative things to say about our president.

Celebrities Supporting Our Troops Over this Holidays
Of all the charities floating around out there, the USA tops my list. It was always there for me when I traveled and USO shows in ‘Nam were jewels.
So, here’s something you won’t see on ABC, CBS, NBC, and for sure not on CNN:
Many stars — including actors Wilmer Valderrama (“That ’70s Show,” “NCIS”)(shown above right) and Milo Ventimiglia (“Rocky Balboa,” “This Is Us”), Olympic gold medalist snowboarder Shaun White, singer Kellie Pickler (above left), CrossFit world champion Mat Fraser, DJ J. Dayz, and comedian Jessimae Peluso — participated in the 18th annual USO Holiday Tour. They traveling to U.S. military bases in Norway, Bahrain and Iraq over the past week, showing their appreciation for all that the military does for our nation.

Kwanzaa: A Fraud Holiday With A Racist Goal, Created By Criminal Madman
Oh boy, Posting this is going to ramp up the rhetoric and I’m going to be called all sorts of racist names for doing it.
One thing I’ve noticed this year; almost nothing on the boob tube about it nor in the news feeds.
Suddenly lost its popularity?
Those who are around my age woke up one December and discovered that the “holiday season” of Christmas and New Year’s became a trio, with the addition of something called Kwanzaa. Oh, sure there were rumblings of a new holiday. But strangely in this country where political correctness is on overload, a day invented in 1966 by a rapist who ran a Black separatist group is considered by some as a holiday on par with Christmas, or New Year’s. Kwanzaa is exclusively an American holiday and is not celebrated in any other part of the world (including Africa). The name Kwanzaa comes from a phrase of Swahili origin, “Matunda Ya Kwanza”, and translates as “First Fruits of the Harvest.” That’s right it’s supposed to be spelled with only one “a,” the very name of this supposed holiday is a typo.
Kwanzaa runs from December 26th-January 1st. It’s supposed to be a week-long holiday honoring African culture and traditions but is tainted by its founder and original purpose.
The man who created the holiday, Maulana Karenga, was convicted in 1971  of torturing two women who were members of US (United Slaves), a black nationalist cult he had founded. A May 14, 1971, article in the Los Angeles Times related the testimony of one of the women:

Guatemalan Migrant Father Declined Medical Treatment For Sick Child Before Death
At last! The truth.
The media rants and raves at the abject cruelty of ICE and the Border Patrol for letting another poor immigrant child die in their custody.
Cold hearted bastards.
Following the child’s first discharge from the hospital, both he and the father were put into a temporary holding facility where agents were aware of the child’s illness and provided the child with his medication. A few hours after the father and boy entered the facility, the child complained of being nauseous and later vomited.
It was at this point the father declined further medical treatment for his son and told officials he “had been feeling better,” an official said.
During a subsequent welfare check, agents at the facility noticed the child’s condition and transported him to the hospital. The child later lost consciousness during transit and was eventually declared dead just before midnight.
Government officials did not comment on why exactly they think the father denied further treatment for his child, despite him exhibiting more severe symptoms.
Get that? The father knew the child was ill and wouldn’t let the doctors do more to save the child’s life. The father – if he was really the father – let the child die.

Kick Them Out’: Syrian Women Tell Europe to Send Men Home to Rebuild Country
This is, by far, one of the best headlines I’ve read in many months. Too bad it’s only Syrian women complaining. Women from a whole lot of countries need to be speaking up.
Syrian women are complaining that there are not enough men to rebuild the county, and have told Europe and other Western countries that have absorbed their young men to “kick them out” and send them home.
Journalist at Swedish public broadcaster SVT Johan-Mathias Sommarström travelled to Damascus, Syria, and spoke to some of the students at the University of Damascus, 70 per cent of whom he observed are women.
Look around, you just see women. The university, on the street, in cafes, just women,” students Safaa and Sheima told Sommarström.
And the article ends with this:
The conflict sparked the mass migration of mostly young men out of Syria to Europe in 2015. In response, the United Nations wrote the world’s first global governance compact on migration.
Two dozen countries rejected the agreement when signed this month, with President Trump saying in September at the UN General Assembly, “Ultimately, the only long-term solution to the migration crisis is to help people build more hopeful futures in their home countries [and] make their countries great again.”

Oh, great. Russia takes over Venezuela’s oil industry
The oil workers have quit and Maduro’s military can’t take up the slack. The once oil-rich country is near bankruptcy and Cuba is too poor to help more.
So, who steps in?
Why Russia, of course.
We already learned that Russia was sending bombers to Venezuela for military exercises and supporting the country’s imploding economy. What could Vladimir Putin have wanted in exchange? We’re probably seeing the answer come into focus as Russia moves in to “help” Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro as we head into the new year. Putin is going to bail out Maduro’s failing government with some cash in exchange for establishing some measure of control over that nation’s vast crude oil reserves that are currently lying mostly dormant.
Do you think Putin will also step in to the argument between Venezuela and Guyana? I wouldn’t be surprised.

The good, the bad, and the ugly of England's universal health-care system
This appears to be an honest assessment of the system set up in 1948 after WWII.
Why should we Americans care about it? Because the Democrat party line is to establish universal care here. We must look at these pros and cons in order to make an informed decision.
The National Health Service, or NHS, is the United Kingdom's public universal health system. It was established in 1948 after World War II, and has since grown to become a massive operation: The NHS sees a million patients every day. It employs 1.7 million people, which makes it the fifth biggest employer in the entire world. And of course, it is free at the point of use for U.K. residents. If you walk into an NHS hospital with a broken arm, you'll walk out with a cast, a few x-rays, and zero bills to pay. That's because people who live in the U.K., myself included, contribute to the NHS through taxes and national insurance payments (the U.K.'s version of Social Security).
And, here’s the biggest problem:
But this system is far from perfect. It is plagued by funding problems and staff shortages. We encountered the NHS's dark underbelly after postnatal complications landed us in the hospital. The NHS gave me a healthy baby, yes. But the NHS also gave me nightmares that still wake me from a dead sleep, even nine months on.
The NHS is practically begging doctors from other countries to come to work for it, even offering fully-paid tuition to medical school for pre-med students.
A similar system exists in Canada and it should surprise nobody that many Canadians cross the border to get their much-needed treatments here. The only advantage to us is, that like Mexico, medications there are much cheaper than here.

Fast-food industry turns to seniors as reliable workers
Have you seen it where you live?
But here’s a News Flash that potential employers seem to be rediscovering: Senior citizens have a lifetime of job discipline experience in work and social settings in the real world, not online, an attention span beyond four seconds and the accompanying self-confidence that makes them ideal for customer interactions in such retail work.
Many retired folks are looking for part-time work, a little extra cash and don’t have the long-term career ambitious expectations for advancement and pay increases.
So, where are young people going to start out their work careers?

How Much of the Internet Is Fake?
Some of us [like me] spend hours every day scanning the web for news and information. How many of us stop to ponder just how much of what we see is generated by humans? According to this, a lot of it isn’t!
How much of the internet is fake? Studies generally suggest that, year after year, less than 60 percent of web traffic is human; some years, according to some researchers, a healthy majority of it is bot. For a period of time in 2013, the Times reported this year, a full half of YouTube traffic was “bots masquerading as people,” a portion so high that employees feared an inflection point after which YouTube’s systems for detecting fraudulent traffic would begin to regard bot traffic as real and human traffic as fake. They called this hypothetical event “the Inversion.”
The metrics are fake.
The people are fake.
The businesses are fake.
The content is fake.
Our politics are fake.
We ourselves are fake.
And the final paragraph asks; “Where does that leave us?”
My response is; screwed!

According to the survey, 29 percent of respondents said they do not believe most polls, but they do trust a few; 19 percent said they "almost never" believe polls are accurate.
While the majority were mistrustful of polls, 15 percent of respondents said they "almost always" believed in polls they heard about in the press. Thirty-three percent said they believed most polls but not all of them.
