GOP recruiting women, political outsiders to run for House
It’s the only way we’re going to retake the House in 2020. It’s so refreshing to see that the RNC is getting off its duff to do what’s needed.
(House Minority Leader Kevin ) McCarthy (R-Calif) says he's met with over 30 contenders, of whom nearly 6 in 10 are women and nearly half are minorities. Rep. Susan Brooks, R-Ind., recruitment chief for the National Republican Congressional Committee, the House GOP's campaign arm, says more than 130 women have contacted the committee about running. Another group called Winning for Women and E-PAC, formed by Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., are also seeking female GOP candidates.
So far, Republicans haven't matched Democrats' ability to attract women candidates. According to data collected by The Associated Press through noon last Monday, just 38 of 172 declared Republican House challengers were women, around 1 in 5. That compared to 84 of 222 declared House Democratic challengers, nearly 2 in 5.
Democrats scoff that GOP efforts will flop because Americans care less about candidates' attributes than about issues like buttressing health care and wages.

Reading the article indicates that most of the women surveyed indicating they went along with the idea of forgiving part or all of student loans. They also want a tax on banks.
In other words, they get sucked in by the liberal propaganda of the Left.
So, how to conservative GOP candidates overcome it?
They're not excited about any of the 2020 Democrats running for president, and they only really recognized Warren, Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders. "The presidency is a man's job," said 44-year-old Jamison P.
The economy was the issue that came up the most among this group when discussing their top concern heading into the 2020 presidential election. And although half of the respondents thought the national economy is booming, no one said they've seen an increase in their own wages or financial situation.
The bottom line: It's still early, but right now Warren — or any other Democrat — would face an enormous challenge winning these voters back even though there's a market for her style of populism.

US Marines needing Slang Dictionaries to Talk with their Aussie counterparts?
The Marines and sailors, who by July are expected to number 2,500, are slated to take part in several exercises before heading home in October. It’s a chance to hone skills and strengthen ties, while working through possible differences in lingo.
And they’re going to need to catch on to stuff like this:
A glossary in the original WWII-era booklet provides some other “colorful, picturesque” words and phrases — and hints at likely common interests among the troops of both countries, if not a common vocabulary.
Included among the first 20 words are the following selections, some of which appear to have fallen out of use: sheila – a babe; cliner – another babe; sninny – a third babe; shivoo – a party; shikkered – drunk; plonk – cheap wine; shout – to buy drinks for the house; smooge – to pitch woo (to flirt); cobber – pal.
I think it’s hilarious.
An Aussie Air Force Group Captain – the equivalent of a US full colonel – got himself in trouble for telling a local newspaper that they needed to educate the US visitors as, “The time to figure that out is not on the battlefield when the bullets are flying.”
Seems Aussies are proud of the fact that they use more slang than any other English speakers in the world.

The US is ‘operating blind’ in the Arctic
With all the money we’ve spent on technology, it’s still the human eye that’s needed for our ships to navigate polar waters.
When it comes to predicting fluctuations in Arctic weather, the United States is “operating in the blind,” the U.S. Navy’s chief meteorologist said Monday.
The northern polar region is heating up about twice as fast as the rest of the globe, creating wildly variable weather and conditions that don’t happen anywhere else. As climate change makes the Arctic more accessible, the Navy’s ships, subs, and aircraft need better weather models to help them operate in the region’s chaotic seas, Rear Adm. John Okon told an audience at the Navy League’s Sea-Air-Space conference on Monday.
Okon said relatively small atmospheric events in the Arctic, sometimes called polar lows, can be as dangerous as hurricanes at lower latitudes. They “develop quick and move really fast,” he said.
And the Soviets are expanding their bases along their northern borders. They already have a huge advantage as they’ve been in those waters throughout their entire history.

A Reuters reporter saw a mob of several dozen young Sinhalese men wielding sticks and rods in what appeared to be a standoff in the town of Madulla in North Western Province.
Many anxious Muslims were hunkering down at home but young men, some of them carrying rods, were still zipping around on motorbikes, despite regional curfews from 2 p.m. before the nationwide curfew was imposed.

The Media Wounded
There still exists a physical media in the sense of airing current events. But it is not journalism as we once understood the disinterested reporting of the news. Journalism is now dead. The media lives on.
I don’t think I’ve ever read truer words! We have News Readers who get their words from behind-the-scenes producers who never have to face the public. And many of the Talking Heads are employed for their left-leaning biases.
Reporters today believe that their coverage serves higher agendas of social justice, identity politics, “equality” and diversity. To the degree a news account is expanded or ignored, praised or blasted, depends on its supposed utility to the effort to fundamentally transform the country into something unlike its founding.
At the recent third president-less White House Correspondents’ Dinner, passive-aggressive journalists whined that they were victims, standing on the barricades against the all-powerful, all-evil—and all absent—Donald Trump. If the attempt was to return professionalism to the evening and eschew the pathological celebrity obsessions of the past, the result was only more confirmation of the self-referential and narcissistic culture of the Washington press corps.
Why should we believe reporters suddenly worried about ethics, and free inquiry and speech?

Public-Sector Unions: The Other Deep State
I have long railed against public sector unions. I strongly believe they should be illegal.
Government unions insulate their members from the challenges facing ordinary private citizens. On every major issue of our time; globalization, immigration, climate change, the integrity of our elections, crime and punishment, regulations, government spending, and fiscal reform, the interests and political bias of public-sector unions is inherently in conflict with the public interest. Today, there may be no greater core threat to the freedom and prosperity of the American people.
Here’s why we have to do away with them:
Public-sector unions do not negotiate with management accountable to shareholders, but instead with politicians whom they help elect and, therefore, are accountable to the unions. Moreover, politicians, unlike corporate executives, typically occupy their offices for shorter periods of time. And politicians, unlike corporate executives, don’t own shares that might be devalued after they leave office due to decisions they made while in office.
There is one good thing on the horizon. With the SCOTUS ruling that union dues many no longer be mandatorily taken from government employees salaries, union membership has plummeted. And, it keeps falling.

How did the states get their names and shapes?
I saw a thread on this while scanning Reddit this morning and it got my curiosity. I know how California was named after the mythical queen Califa. New Mexico is obvious. How about some of the others?
If you observe carefully, you will find that many states have been named after dukes, kings, queens, presidents, islands, and other places that the travelers and explorers fancied. But most names were christened by native Indians. These names mostly described the place and characteristics of the land. One of the states was even named after an Aztec God!

Obama-appointed Judge to hear showdown between President Trump and the House
Mehta sits on the District of Columbia Court of Appeals and has been the subject of non-stop investigations by Republicans since be appointed in 2014.
I wonder how he got the suit? Merrick Garland – name sound familiar – is the Chief Judge and assigns cases as he sees fit.
On Monday, the Republican president’s attorneys objected to Mehta’s plan to fast-track the lawsuit by holding a trial on Tuesday, saying that would deny Trump a “full and fair” hearing.
Either way, Mehta will likely issue a written decision at a later date, although he may indicate on Tuesday how he intends to rule. Whatever the outcome, his ruling will almost certainly be appealed to a higher court.
The appeal, when it comes, will go to a panel of judges from the district court, again appointed by Judge Garland. After that, it will go to SCOTUS.

Filipino President Duterte To Hand Out 42,000 Free Guns To Battle Drugs And Crime

The Philippines has vowed to give free guns to members of the public — so long as they promise to use them to fight drugs and crime.
President Rodrigo Duterte said he’s considering arming 42,000 community leaders, known as barangay captains, after consulting with the police and intelligence agency.
Martin Dino, the interior department undersecretary responsible for barangays, said handguns would be provided for free, or private purchases subsidized, but only for those not involved in illegal drugs.
Dino said: “The condition is that the barangay captain should fight drugs and crime. If he is conniving with criminals, he could be the one shot.”
Duterte has repeatedly said thousands of community officials were involved in the trade, without elaborating.

Is a college degree worth it?
You’ll be blown away to learn who’s asking the question!
A college professor for 25 years.
He talks about how much it costs to get a degree. Between $60 and $200k. I think that’s an underestimate and doesn’t count all the professional students who spend decades getting their doctorates.
A graduate can make good money in STEM, particularly in engineering. But fewer students major in science than other areas.
If someone took the cost of four years of college–and that assumes students finish in that time–and invested the money into the stock market or a house, the estimated $20,000-a-year gap between the salary of a high school grad and a college grad shrinks considerably.
Moreover, there are a lot of jobs where high school grads can make a lot of money.
It’s something I’ve frequently posted about and it surprises me to see it coming from a professor.

On Monday, scientists introduced a rare version of a gene that promises to make store-bought tomatoes taste more edible in a report published in Nature Genetics.
Tomato breeders usually sacrifice the flavor of their batches for the sake of production, opting to instead breed larger fruits in higher quantities with longer shelf lives.

Austrian state plans 'Ten Commandments' for refugees
Refugees in Lower Austria are to be issued with "Ten Commandments of Immigration" by regional authorities. Included in the edicts is a requirement for migrants to show gratitude to the country.
That certainly will anger Leftists who believe people don’t have to integrate when they come to a new country.
Among the rules, migrants are required to:
Learn German
Adhere to Austrian laws
Adopt "Austrian values" and raise children in accordance with them;
Resolve conflicts nonviolently
Respect religious freedom
Prevent unnecessary suffering to animals
Show gratitude to Austria

The Dims love throwing this out there to justify their plethora of investigations into the current administration.
Just what the heck is it? And what authorizes it?
Here’s what Wiki says:

Congressional oversight includes the review, monitoring, and supervision of federal agencies, programs, activities, and policy implementation. Congress’s oversight authority derives from its “implied” powers in the Constitution, public laws, and House and Senate rules. It is an integral part of the American system of checks and balances.
Get that? Implied powers.
In other words, something Congress has taken upon itself in addition to specific constitutional powers.
This will be great if … if our representatives actually represented us, the American people. Sadly, from what we’re seeing from the current bunch of political hacks, one wonders if that is no longer the case.

Army Medical Researchers Want Head-Up Displays for Combat Medics
Cutting the “Golden Hour” down to minutes. The military catching up to the civilian community for a change?
U.S. Army medical researchers want to equip combat medics with a head-up display so they can connect with surgeons in the rear for help with critically wounded troops on the battlfield.
"What we are working on is the ability to project surgical expertise and medical expertise as far forward as we can ... right out to the medic," Geoffrey Miller, a research scientist at the Army's Medical Research and Materiel Command, told Military.com on April 25 at a Pentagon technology demonstration.
The effort is designed to use augmented reality to guide a medic to perform advanced procedures such as trauma surgery on wounded personnel who can't wait for a medevac, Miller said.

Vehicles Left to Rust, Faulty Furnaces: Most Military Depots in Bad Shape
Few understand just how damaging to military readiness the 8 years of the Obama administration was.
Of the 21 depots that maintain, overhaul and repair complex weapons systems, 12 were listed in poor condition and operating with equipment past its expected service life, according to the 77-page GAO report, issued Monday.
The result has been a "general decline in depot performance over the past 10 years" and delays in returning weapons systems to the field for operations and training, the report states.
In addition, "the military services can't determine how much of the decline is due to facility and equipment problems," according to the GAO, Congress' audit, evaluation and investigative arm.

And this is sure as hell a case of being divided.
Representative Omar is further keen on constantly expressing how America is a terrible and unjust country structured around “systematic racism.”
One wonders, if America is such a terrible and racist place deserving of terrorist attacks by murderous organizations such as al-Qaeda—which as Omar suggests to us, are nothing to be afraid of—why does not the proud Somali Muslim woman move back to the country of her birth?
It seems, however, that the people of Minnesota are abundantly blessed with enough Somalis—80,000, in fact, including 43,000 settled there by noted American patriot Barack Hussein Obama—to make Ilhan Omar feel quite at home in the frosty and forested state on America’s Canadian border.
Why? What on earth earns these people the right to come to America? To completely ignore our ways, our beliefs? To kill our children and rape our women?
We’ve given them great gifts and I firmly believe it’s time to give them another gift – one-ways tickets back to Somalia! Now!

Terrorists crossing our southern border
It’s no longer just Mexicans and other Latin Americans, we are seeing people on terror watch lists being smuggled in for $2 to $6k per head.
Who pays that kind of money to fly them from the Middle East to Central America so they can come north and infiltrate our border?
Todd Bensman, of the Center for Immigration Studies, says, “Thousands of so-called ‘special interest aliens’ (SIAs) arriving annually from the Middle East, South Asia and North Africa — mostly without any identification or vetting — have given rise to national security worries about infiltration.”
“Right now Border Patrol agents are being pulled out of the field to process family units,” Bash said. “That creates a vicious cycle because more and more people can enter undetected because we have fewer agents in the field.”
Even when arrests are made, the results aren’t necessarily comforting.
While Aldairi faces three to 10 years in prison, the six Yemenis were prosecuted for illegal entry, which is a misdemeanor carrying light penalties. They served sentences of just 14 to 20 days, and three of the six remain in the U.S. Officials would not provide details on their status or whereabouts.
When will the media report this?
When will the Dims sit up and down something about this?
When will the American people learn the danger facing them and their families?

Should student loan debt be canceled?
I got this from Yahoo News and it presents an important question.
It mentions that students – or graduates – are in debt to the tune of $1.25 TRILLION! And that lots of Dimocrap candidates want to see it “forgiven.”
It would only help 42 million people, a mere 14?% of Americans.
My take is simple. Why should you go to college if you’re not ready to pay your way?
My granddaughter is going to college, studying civil engineering. She is receiving scholarships because she busted her butt in high school, earning straight As. And she’s working part-time to help pay for her school costs.
Is she less important than those parasites who sit around doing nothing to get degrees in art appreciation or minority theme studies?
And then comes this:

New far-right party seen entering Danish parliament
It’s beginning to spread throughout Europe. Awareness of the peril presented by Islam within more and more countries. Denmark is the latest – and won’t be be the last.
COPENHAGEN (Reuters) – A new Danish far-right party that wants Islam banned and hundreds of thousands of Muslims deported could win seats in Denmark’s parliament in an upcoming election, an opinion poll showed on Monday.
The party ‘Stram Kurs’, which means Hard Line, was founded in 2017 by lawyer Rasmus Paludan who first came to public attention by posting anti-Islam YouTube videos. His stunts have included publicly burning the Koran, sometimes wrapped in bacon, in what he calls a tribute to free speech.
A Voxmeter poll published on Monday
showed that Hard Line would win 2.4 percent of the vote, thereby clearing the 2 percent barrier required to enter the Danish parliament. It gave its margin of error as a maximum of 2.7 percentage points.
The percentage may seem small but it’s a foot in the door. Will the rest of the body follow?

Who owns the media?
We continually hear complaints of fake news and biased reporting. We see the faces on TV spouting their lines, most often created by their producers and not them. And nobody really knows who those producers or directors are – the real people behind the news. At least there are some of those faces who makes no pretense as to who they are and what their agendas are.
So, back to the question. According to Wiki:

At least we know who owns them.

Socialism is a state of society where most wealth, either de jure or de facto, belongs to a government.
Capitalism is a state of society where most wealth, both de jure and de facto, belongs to its citizens.
Communism is a Utopian state of society where all wealth, both de jure and de facto, belongs to a government.
The author rightly points out that it is impossible to argue with a socialist/communist because they refuse to see any point other than what is included in their dogma.
Doesn’t that make it a form of religion?
It is often said that left-wingers and right-wingers do not understand each other because they "live in parallel universes," or one side blames another for living in the so-called "alternative reality." Since core leftist belief is irrational, the right-wingers are not surprised when adherents of leftism stiffen their resolve when confronted with social and economic truth.

The Solar Energy Racket
Not only solar but wind power too.
You pay all that money for something that doesn’t work at night or when it’s cloudy. Or when the wind doesn’t blow.
So, let me ask a question.
How many here have solar panels or a wind turbine at home or at work?
Does it really save you money?
What we have is an alliance among hysterical environmental groups, profit-making solar developers, and politicians eager to make important friends.  The environmental groups need a stream of impending catastrophes for which they propose impracticable or crackpot solutions.  That's how they excite interest and stay in business.  The Sierra Club and other groups are against all energy sources except wind and solar and some niche energy sources.  The media, probably out of ignorance, go along with the propaganda in favor of solar energy.  Rational, fact-based analysis appears to be politically incorrect.

And, where is the congressional oversight on this?
Years after a scathing federal audit exposed rampant waste in a multi-billion-dollar government program to help the “unemployed or underemployed” pay their mortgage, the gouging continues full throttle. Public officials who operate the disastrous project, known as Hardest Hit Fund (HHF), have wasted millions of dollars on parties, fancy cars, gifts, extravagant dinners and receptions, gym memberships and luxury travel. Previous investigations have uncovered more than $11 million in wasteful spending at HHF for illegal things such as employee bonuses, lavish shindigs, expensive vehicles and superfluous data storage. The latest enraging figures are documented in a lengthy report to Congress that outlines how HHF continues fleecing American taxpayers.
Is anything being done?
Not much!
On a positive note criminal bribery charges were filed against multiple public officials handling HHF money, according to the Treasury watchdog, though it won’t stop the cash from flowing into the famously crooked program’s bloated coffers. Among them are an unnamed city official, land bank official and a contractor in Michigan and Ohio. “This is SIGTARP’s third audit finding waste and unnecessary charges in the HHF,” the latest report states. “Previous SIGTARP audits uncovered more than $11 million in waste and other unnecessary expenses.” When will the madness stop?

In 2017 a team of researchers used the images to study the distribution of car types in the US and then used that data to determine the demographic makeup of the country. It turns out that the car you drive is a surprisingly reliable proxy for your income level, your education, your occupation, and even the way you vote in elections.
And other groups are going even further.
One has to wonder if criminals aren’t using it too. Checking out which neighborhoods are worth visiting for break-ins.

Why is it our problem?
One is bombarded by the absolute barbarism infesting the streets and villages of this Central American country – as well as the rest of Central America.
But, hidden deep within the piece is something that should set many aback – this cruelty among the people did not exist when these countries were ruled by dictators.
Underpinning nearly every killing is a climate of impunity that, in some countries, leaves more than 95 percent of homicides unsolved. And the state is a guarantor of the phenomenon — governments hollowed out by corruption are either incapable or unwilling to apply the rule of law, enabling criminal networks to dictate the lives of millions.
For the masses fleeing violence and poverty in Central America, the United States is both a cause and solution — the author of countless woes and a chance to escape them.

Cunningham went on to list offshore drilling, infrastructure and tariffs as the issues that are “concerning” the people.
