FTC Prepared To Break Up Big Tech, MLB’s secret mud maker, Britain’s NHS a “national disgrace,” Simone Biles – Remaking Gymnastics, DHS sending pregnant asylum seekers back to Mexico, and a lot more for August 18, 2019

Liberals, not conservatives, are psychotic
It takes a scientific study to determine this? Ya gotta be kidding.
The American Journal of Political Science published a correction this year saying that the 2012 paper has “an error” — and that liberal political beliefs, not conservative ones, are actually linked to psychoticism.
The interpretation of the coding of the political attitude items in the descriptive and preliminary analyses portion of the manuscript was exactly reversed,” the journal said in the startling correction.
The descriptive analyses report that those higher in Eysenck’s psychoticism are more conservative, but they are actually more liberal; and where the original manuscript reports those higher in neuroticism and social desirability are more liberal, they are, in fact, more conservative.”
I love all the psychobabble but the headline states it clearly.

NY Bartender Sues CNN’s Don Lemon For Assault
You never hear of a conservative or people from the entire right political spectrum doing this sort of crap.
Assault? A liberal media spokesflack? How can that be?
My only question is why has he waited a year to file?
According to Hice’s lawsuit, “Mr. Lemon intensely pushed his fingers against Plaintiff’s face under Plaintiff’s nose, forcing Plaintiff’s head to thrust backward as Defendant repeatedly asked Plaintiff ‘Do you like p**y or d**k?’ While saying this, Mr. Lemon continued to shove his fingers into Plaintiff’s face with aggression and hostility.”
Do you think CNN will settle this out of court?

4 myths about war, according to Trump's next top military adviser
The new Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has some rather interesting views of the art of war. He clearly believes there are 4 things most people believe that are far from true. They are:
1. The 'Short War' Myth. “"War takes on a life of its own," Milley said. "It zigs and zags. More often than not, war is much longer, much more expensive, much bloodier, much more horrific than anyone thought at the beginning.”
2. The 'Win From Afar' Myth. It always comes down to hand-to-hand.
3. The 'Force Generation' Myth. “This is the idea that it is possible to quickly generate forces in the event of need.”
4. The 'Armies Go to War' Myth. "Armies or navies or air forces don't go to war. Nations go to war," Milley said.
His bio says he has 2 Combat Infantryman Badges, an EIB, Special Forces and Ranger tabs, a Master Parachutist badge and a Special Operations Diver Badge.

Is President Trump a race-baiter?
Once against, the WaPo attacks the president.
Along with a wide range of media outlets.
All without proof.
So, it’s no surprise that this hack comes along and claims the president is a race-baiter. S/he then lays out what that is:
A race-baiter is someone who may or may not be personally racist but is perfectly happy to make money or win political office by appealing to racists.
In any case, this is just another piece of garbage some “experts” will refer to when trying to prove their claims.

USS Truman’s CO fled Iran in 1979
Born in Texas and lived in Iran where he attended an international school, CAPT Kavon Hakimzadeh spoke Farsi and English, and kept faith of his Southern Baptist mom, uncles, and cousins. He enlisted in the Navy and got an NROTC scholarship, graduating Carnegie Mellon University. He became an E-2 Hawkeye Naval Flight Officer.
Now, 40 years later, he’s the captain of one of America ‘s mightiest battle platform.

Epstein’s painting of Bubba Clinton inside his Manhattan mansion
I don’t know whether to laugh or to barf.
No wonder he committed suicide

NHS chiefs brand Britain's broken social care system a 'national disgrace’
The same type of healthcare the Dim clowns claim is your right to have.
He adds: ‘As the Mail has documented in recent weeks, many dementia victims have no option but to sell their homes – what would have been their hard-earned legacy for loved ones – to release the funds.’
Waiting lists for r.outine operations such as hip operations and cataract removal are currently at their longest level on record, with ordinary patients bearing the brunt of the social care crisis.
The same holds true in Canada and is why so many Canadians cross the border to get help in the USA.
This story goes on with example after example of the failings of the British National Health System. The exact same system the Socialist Dims running for office are promising to give you.

Clinton cheats at golf, Trump doesn’t
'It's just amazing that people call him a cheat in golf,' Daly said of Trump. 'You want to call a cheat in golf? I'll tell you, Bill Clinton, he took a mulligan on putts, chips, when I played with him. I don't think Bill Clinton could've broken 100.
'At least the president, Mr. Trump, he can shoot 80. 78 to 84, probably.'
So, what’s the big deal?
Well, the article says others claim he “cheats like hell.”
I’m sure we’re going to hear all about this in the week to come. Some pros who play with him may speak up and it’ll be interesting to read what they have to say.

Earthquakes destroyed China Lake naval base
Estimates are that it’ll take $5 billion to get it up and running.
Naval engineers have worked to repair facilities on the base so employees and their families could return, but according to a report this week in the Navy Times, the base has still not been deemed “fully mission capable.”
The latest report shows that officials assessed all buildings, utilities and facilities — 3,598 structures in all — for 13 days after the earthquakes and found damage totaled $5.2 billion. Replacing buildings alone would cost $2.2 billion, but officials also must replace or repair specialized equipment, furniture, machine tools, telecommunication assets and other facilities, the document shows.
More than half the base’s building were built before 1980 and weren’t designed to withstand major quakes.

No more touchscreen throttles on US Navy destroyers
It’s taken them 2 years to figure out that manual throttles are safer?
I wonder if this will hold true for other naval vessels.
Interesting. They still have a manual helm or steering wheel.
Ten sailors aboard the McCain were killed on Aug. 21, 2017, when the destroyer turned into an oil tanker in the Singapore Strait. The collision was the result of a series of errors by the McCain's crew that began when a watch stander mistakenly transferred steering to another station.
In the confusion that followed, only one of the McCain's two propellers was slowed, causing the McCain to turn faster into the oil tanker's path, the National Transportation Safety Board found in a recent report.
That's because the ship's port and starboard propeller throttles were not linked – known as "ganged" when the lee helmsman tried to reduce the McCain's speed to avoid the tanker, the NTSB's June 19 report said. The helmsman didn't realize the starboard propeller was turning much faster than the port one, putting the McCain on a collision course with the tanker.
Were there no old timers on board to warn of the possible problems? And, if there were, did anyone pay attention to them?

Mud Maker: The Man Behind MLB’s Essential Secret Sauce
How many baseball fans even know that team equipment managers rub special mud on balls before they are ready for the game?
Mud that comes from a secret location?
A multibillion-dollar business that embraces advanced technology and cherishes precision, Major League Baseball would prefer not to need an oozy substance harvested by one family in a secret location along the Delaware River. But for decades it has, and that won't
A fun read about how it started and what has happened since @ https://www.si.com/mlb/2019/08/07/baseball-mud-rawlings

38 Americanisms the British Can’t Bloody Stand
Is it all Brits or just the snotty author?
And, who cares?
So, it’s not “proper” grammar but who the heck is the Almighty Decider of what the English language is supposed to be?
Some modern American imports Matthew can’t stand— among them “faze” (as in “it doesn’t faze me”), “hospitalize,” “elevator,” “rookies” (for “newcomers”), and “guy,” “less and less the centerpiece of the ancient British festival of 5 November [Guy Fawkes Day]—or, as it will soon be known, 11/5. Now someone of either gender.” However, sometimes, he concedes, American phrases can have “vigor and vivacity”: “A relative of mine told me recently he went to a business meeting chaired by a California woman who wanted everyone to speak frankly. It was ‘open kimono.’”
I’m not about to post the list; you can check it out yourselves @ https://lithub.com/38-americanisms-the-british-cant-bloody-stand/

Simone Biles – Remaking Gymnastics
I can’t get enough of watching her perform. It’s almost beyond description.

Bone spurs aren’t funny any more
At least not to me!
We all read comments by the butthurts denigrating President Trump for his deferment due to bone spurs. Up until now, I sort of smirked and shrugged it off.
I’ve spent months now with agonizing pain in my right heel. My podiatrist told me to ice it and that did no good. I tried Icy/Hot with lidocaine and got some relief. I finally got fed up and went to a foot clinic. The doctor ordered x-rays and an MRI. The doctor out at the Air Force base just confirmed that I have a bone spur and arthritis. Now to see what kind of treatment I’ll get for it.
So, if President Trump suffered as I have, I don’t find him having bone spurs being anything to find funny.

Ultra Left-wing Snopes Escalates Attack On The Babylon Bee, Justifies Flagging Satire
I don’t know how any sane person doesn’t know the ultra-bias of Snopes.
Weeks after The Babylon Bee obtained legal representation against the fact-checking site for unfairly rating their openly satirical articles and for suggesting that the outlet deliberately misleads their readers, Snopes released a report on Friday justifying its attack on the Bee by suggesting that Republicans are too stupid to know the difference between fake news and satire.
Got that? Snopes claims that Republicans are too stupid to know the difference between fake news and satire.
And they’re deplorables too.

What America Looked Like When Today’s Top Four Presidential Candidates Were Born In The 1940s
This really dates me as I remember every single thing mentioned. A bit lengthy but it’s fun to read.
Bernie Sanders, September 1941
When Bernie Sanders was born, you could buy for $1.00 what would cost $16.33 today. The cost of gas was a mere 19¢ per gallon.
On his birthday, the top song was “Green Eyes” (Aquellos Ojos Verdes) by Jimmy Dorsey and His Orchestra, and the top film was “Citizen Kane,” which only cost 25¢ to attend.
The scandal that had everyone talking was Orson Wells and William Randolph Hearst’s feud over the wildly successful “Citizen Kane,” which Hearst thought was based on him. Sanders was born just three months before the tragic attack on Pearl Harbor.
Joe Biden, November 1942
The year Joe Biden was born, $1.00 was worth $15.74 today. Gas still cost 19¢ per gallon. Bing Crosby was having a great month, as his song “White Christmas” was number 1 when Biden was born, and he starred in the top film, “Road to Morocco,” which you could attend for 27¢.
However, November 1942 was also the time World War II was intensifying. American troops had landed in Africa, as the Nazis took over France.
Donald Trump, June 1946
Donald Trump was born when $1.00 could buy goods worth $13.16 today. Gas prices had risen to 21¢ per gallon. The top song was “The Gypsy” by The Ink Spots, and the top movie “The Farmer’s Daughter,” with an admission price of 35¢.
World War II had ended the year before. The biggest Hollywood story was Howard Hughes crashing his plane into three Beverly Hills homes.
Elizabeth Warren, June 1949
When Elizabeth Warren was born, $1.00 had equal purchasing power to $10.78 today. Gas prices had gone up again, rising to 26¢ per gallon. Country/Western music was succeeding on the charts, as “(Ghost) Riders in the Sky: A Cowboy Legend” by Vaughn Monroe and His Orchestra was the number one song.
The top film was Little Women, which only cost 46¢ to see in theaters. The end of a decade sees Cold War sensibilities increase the fear of Communism, with the beginning of Joe McCarthy’s House of UnAmerican Activities Committee trials, where he questioned suspected communists.

Dutch building floating homes
After reading the article, I’m torn as to whether or not this is a good idea.
How are the communities governed?
Who provides the utilities?
I see solar panels but what about power when there’s no sun?
How about all the services that comprise a community? Schools, churches, shops, restaurants, and other businesses?
The most tried and tested way to build in flood-risk areas is to lift the house off the ground. Humans have been building homes on stilts for millennia, and this technique is still popular in south-east Asia, Central America and Brazil.
More modern techniques include building on a raised platform like a beach house – a familiar sight in my wife’s native Australia – or simply on banks of earth or concrete. Of course this approach requires an element of second guessing: you need to build the accommodation above the level any floodwater will reach.
But the latest technology solves this problem: houses that float and rise with the floodwaters.
There’s a lot more to the article and a Google Search provides some amazing pictures of such homes.

Trump Donates Second-Quarter Salary To Help Fight Opioid Crisis
I know it’s in keeping with his campaign promises. But, I can think of dozens of other causes to donate his salary to.
To battle opioid addiction?
President Donald Trump will donate his second quarter salary to the Surgeon General’s office to support the fight against opioid addiction and inform the pubic about the dangers of youth e-cigarette usage.
Here’s what he’s done with the money so far:
During his first year in office, he gave to the Department of Transportation, the Department of Education to support a science summer camp, and the National Park Service for restoration projects at the Antietam National Battlefield.
Last year, Trump contributed to the Small Business Administration, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism.

FTC Prepared To Break Up Big Tech
Oh boy will that cause an uproar.
And the lawyers are already salivating. They can just guess at how much richer they’ll get from all the lawsuits.
The Federal Trade Commission chairman said he is prepared to break up big tech if his agency finds that the companies have been hurting competition.
Chairman Joe Simons is leading the FTC’s review of technology companies, like Google and Facebook, and said that even though breaking up big tech would be difficult, it might be necessary.
Notice that nothing is said about blocking certain – conservative – content.
They did say this;
The Justice Department’s antitrust division is also investigating big tech companies for concerns about search practices as well as the possibility of harming competition.

DHS sending pregnant asylum seekers back to Mexico
That should put a real crimp in those coming and trying to get in to have their kids in the USA. Means they won’t get an automatic pass because their kids are citizens.
Forcing pregnant women to wait alone in Mexico for their asylum hearings puts them at extreme risk of abuse and extortion. Moreover, it creates significant health risks for mothers and children facing imminent delivery dates when proper medical care is not available,” Merkley said.
Of course Merkley is a bleeding heart Dim Senator from Oregon.

White House readies $4 billion foreign aid cuts package
They don’t like the programs the money is earmarked for and just don’t spend it. It’s the same money State put a hold on.
The White House has proposed to soften the blow by exempting global health programs, including to combat HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases in developing countries. They also want to spare a program championed by President Donald Trump’s daughter and adviser Ivanka Trump that funds women’s economic development programs, as well as funding to protect religious minorities abroad from persecution, a favorite of Vice President Mike Pence.
Nonetheless, proposing some $4 billion in foreign aid programs for cancellation would be a dramatic escalation in the White House’s funding battle with Congress. Tensions were supposed to have eased with enactment of the two-year budget caps deal earlier this month. But Congressional aides have said if the administration moves forward with the State and USAID rescissions, it could lead to a nasty dispute that bodes ill for the fiscal 2020 spending bills.
Yet another campaign promise kept.

Half of Hispanic Americans Approve of Trump Following ICE Raids
His ratings among blacks has also improved.
Since the raids, the food processing plants have been forced to hold job fairs in the area, potentially increasing wages and bettering working conditions to attract and compete for American workers rather than relying on an underclass of exploited illegal workers. One potential worker said the processing plant was offering $12 an hour, but he would like to negotiate a salary of $15 an hour.
With companies all across the country being forced to let their illegals go, it means a whole lot new job opportunities for those in need.
One side effect nobody’s mentioning – with increased staff salaries, prices are going to go up. Good old supply and demand.
