News and Very Interesting Stuff for November 17, 2018

Ocasio-Cortez crashes Nancy Pelosi’s office with scores of protesters – and a list of demands

The lunatic shows exactly what can be expected of the Dims in the 116th Congress. Sources say that at least a dozen Dims will vote against her Speakership.
So what is this “Green New Deal” activists are demanding? The group’s petition is vague, but generally describes this plan as “moving our country off fossil fuels over the designated 12 years that the [United Nations] has given us.”
[T]he Green New Deal believes that radically addressing climate change is a potential path towards a more equitable economy with increased employment and widespread financial security for all,” reads Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign website.

Dem dissenters: We have the votes to block Pelosi speakership @ https://hotair.com/archives/2018/11/14/dem-dissenters-votes-block-pelosi-speakership/
But here’s the problem for Pelosi’s opponents: There is currently no other House Dem stepping forward to take her on. “Asked about how the Pelosi defectors could beat somebody with nobody, [Rep. Seth] Moulton seemed undeterred, saying there was plenty of talent in the Democratic Caucus,” HuffPo’s Matt Fuller writes. But no one from that talent has accepted the challenge to compete against Pelosi.
So Democrats are stuck — between the option of an unpopular Pelosi who’s problematic for many of the House freshman who just won, and the option of no real Plan B.

Democrats Did Not Take The House
When you think about it, the author’s absolutely right. Traditional DimocRATs did not win the house. DINOS did. [Democrat in Name Only]
The enthusiasm of Leftistism filled the void created when the Democratic party lost its message, moral compass, and finally the 2016 election. And now the Democrat establishment, with all its funding, can’t put the genie back in the bottle and can’t regain its identity.
It was the ideology and energy of the far-left, that seized control and hijacked the Democrat Party. A political party is identified by its positions and policies and so it was a completely different political party of DINO’s that took the House. With that understanding, what was once known as the Democrat party, no longer exists. Perhaps in the near future, a new, more appropriate party name will emerge.

Trump taps daughter of Indian immigrants to succeed Kavanaugh on DC circuit
Let’s see the Dims try to block this one? Our president shows his brilliance in this one.
Rao, the daughter of Indian immigrants, has served as the Trump administration’s deregulatory czar since 2017, and is widely considered a leading authority on agency law. Before re-entering the White House, she founded and led the Center for the Study of the Administrative State at George Mason University’s Antonin Scalia Law School, increasingly a bastion of conservative jurisprudence.
The Center seeks to advance and curate debates over the scope of federal regulatory authority, increasingly a priority for conservative legal scholars and activists who fear agency power has grown such that the regulatory bureaucracy is now its own unaccountable branch of government.
Rao has led the Trump administration to meaningful successes in its vaunted regulatory rollback. She crowed about the administration’s achievements in a Washington Post op-edon Oct. 21.

Feds probing Florida Dems over altered election documents
About damn time! These farces in Florida are almost beyond belief – it it hadn’t happened before.
The Florida Department of State last week asked federal prosecutors to investigate dates that were changed on official state election documents, the first voting “irregularities” it has flagged in the wake of the 2018 elections.
The concerns, which the department says can be tied to the Florida Democratic Party, center around date changes on forms used to fix vote-by-mail ballots sent with incorrect or missing information. Known as “cure affidavits,” those documents used to fix mail ballots were due no later than 5 p.m. on Nov. 5 — the day before the election. But affidavits released on Tuesday by the DOS show that documents from four different counties said the ballots could be returned by 5 p.m. on Thursday, which is not accurate.
Federal Prosecutors Discover Altered Election Documents in Broward County Tied to Florida Democrats @ https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2018/11/federal-prosecutors-discover-altered-election-documents-in-broward-county-tied-to-florida-democrats/
Florida law requires that the voter signatures on mail ballots match the signature of the voter, but Dem lawyers are asking a judge to throw that law out & force Florida to count ballots with signatures that don’t match the voter signature on file,” Senator Rubio explained.
Broward County elections supervisor Brenda Snipes also admitted that one of her elections officials was driving around with blank provisional ballots in a rental car–and she still has not been removed from her position and prosecuted.
Anyone surprised?

Justice Department Says Trump Has Power to Name Whitaker
I’ve seen this in at least a dozen different sites and all report the same.
The Office of Legal Counsel said a president can “depart from the succession order” that was established by one federal law by relying on a separate law, known as the Federal Vacancies Reform Act. The opinion concluded that the Republican president was on solid constitutional ground as well.
And the kicker is, the husband of the president’s councilor, Kelleyanne Conway, is leading the legal effort to invalidate the appointment.
Wow! What a marriage that must be. They have 4 kids, ages unknown.

Trump Is Reportedly Having Trouble With The ‘Commander’ Part Of ‘Commander-In-Chief’
I’ve never quite figured out the political viewpoint of this website. This is either satire or a less than subtle zinger at his leadership skills or the subordinates in the Department of Defense. Figure it out for yourselves.
President Donald Trump may be the commander-in-chief, but an expansive new report details just how much difficulty the mercurial president has faced in assuming the “commander” part of the job.
Trump has failed to visit the active-duty U.S. service members in war zones because ” he does not really want American troops there in the first place,” according to his aides. “To visit, they said, would validate missions he does not truly believe in.”
After skipping a visit to a cemetery for U.S. troops killed in the Battle of Belleau Wood, Trump reportedly “was furious that no one warned him it would be a political disaster to skip the trip,” clearly more enthralled by the political calculus of such appearances.
Trump would make sweeping declarations about military matters and then quickly forget, as was the case when Trump declared “it’s time” to withdraw U.S. forces from Syria last April, per the Times: “The response at the Pentagon was a deliberate silence, Defense Department officials said, who anticipated that Mr. Trump would not follow up and would instead move on to other topics, which he did.”
Even Trump couldn’t withstand the scourge of PowerPoint! According to the Times, Trump “asked so few questions in a briefing at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla., that top military commanders cut the number of prepared PowerPoint slides to three — they had initially planned 18 — said two officials with knowledge of the visit.”
Well, this will answer the question for you: Read the whole analysis at The New York Times.

Something's Happening to the Sun Right Now, Here's What It Means for Earth
The Globull Warming freaks will never, ever admit that the sun plays a massive role in Earth’s climate. Why, I do not understand.
If the trend continues, the NASA scientist says we could see record cold in a matter of months.
"The thermosphere always cools off during Solar Minimum. It's one of the most important ways the solar cycle affects our planet," Mlynczak said.
NASA's space weather website further explains, "All weather on Earth, from the surface of the planet out into space, begins with the Sun. Space weather and terrestrial weather (the weather we feel at the surface) are influenced by the small changes the Sun undergoes during its solar cycle."
So NASA has created a Thermosphere Climate Index (TCI) described as "a weather metric that tells us how the top of Earth's atmosphere (or 'thermosphere') is responding to solar activity."
The TCI shows that, right now, "the top of Earth's atmosphere is approximately 10 times cooler than it was during the record-setting Solar Max of 1957-58."

Church Gathers Army of Volunteers to Help Those Stranded by Deadly California Fires
While the celebrities and pols bicker over who’s to blame or who’s going to pay for what, church members suck it up and offer love and care to those in need. What a shame more aren’t doing the same.
The church has been flooded with countless donations and Pastor Ron Zimmer says the number of supplies they have received is growing at "every moment."
A YouTube video shows dozens of cases of water, clothes, shoes, and other aid. Comcast is also proving wifi and television service for the families stranded in the shelter.
"If you're displaced we have water, food, clothing, blankets, pillows. Anything that you need, you can get it here so come on down," Simmer says in the video.
The church even has enough room and food for peoples' pet dogs.

CNN star backstabbed yesterday after THIS insane Trump stunt
Being booted from the White House has nothing to do with freedom of the press. It's all about civility, which he has none of.
The Washington Post’s Pulitzer-prize winning journalist Bob Woodward, whose anti-Trump book “Fear” recently sold millions, stabbed Acosta in the back at a Global Financial Leadership Conference in Naples, Florida.
Woodward told the crowd that too many people in the media “have become emotionally unhinged.”
In the news media there has been an emotional reaction to Trump,” Woodward said. “Too many people for Trump, or against Trump, have become emotionally unhinged about this.”
Here are 11 examples of Jim “Accost”a’s outrageous unhinged behavior [videos] @ https://thehayride.com/2018/11/here-are-11-examples-of-jim-accostas-outrageous-unhinged-behavior-videos/
Only 11? I’m certain there are a whole lot more!
Larry King Stuns Everyone.
The one-time face of CNN says,
CNN stopped doing news a long time ago,” said Larry King, who spent two and a half decades as a host.
Now, instead of news, “they do Trump.”
King knows a thing or two about CNN. He hosted its longest-running show, “Larry King Tonight,” for 25 years.
An amazing piece about the network who cannot even beat USA, the Hallmark Channel, or HGTV.

A Million Americans Are Living In Their RVs
Is it because they want to, they lost their other home to repo, or they can’t afford anything else?
A million Americans live full-time in RVs, according to the RV Industry Association. Some have to do it because they can’t afford other options, but many do it by choice. Last year was a record for RV sales, according to the data firm Statistical Surveys. More than 10.5 million households own at least one RV, a jump from 2005 when 7.5 million households had RVs, according to RVIA.
And there’s this:
A 30 year mortgage is essentially a suffocating lifetime financial commitment for many people, and so a lot of Americans are choosing to embrace the RV lifestyle in order to escape those financial chains.  One family that the Washington Post recently interviewed says that they are “redefining what the American Dream means”…
We’re a family of four redefining what the American Dream means. It’s happiness, not a four-bedroom house with a two-car garage,” said Robert Meinhofer, who is 45.
The Meinhofers and a dozen others who spoke with The Washington Post about this modern nomadic lifestyle said living in 200 to 400 square feet has improved their marriages and made them happier, even if they’re earning less. There’s no official term for this lifestyle, but most refer to themselves as “full-time RVers,” “digital nomads” or “workampers.”
I don’t see how a family of four could possibly live in an RV, no matter how big it is.

Billions are now spent to protect kids from school shootings
Has it made them safer?
I originally fond this on the Washington Post but it requires one to pay to read so I went elsewhere.
Industries always spring up to meet what is seen as needs of society. Sadly, this one comes from senseless tragedies – the deaths of innocent school children at the hands of fruitcakes.
The expo had finally begun, and now hundreds of school administrators streamed into a sprawling, chandeliered ballroom where entrepreneurs awaited, each eager to explain why their product, above all others, was the one worth buying.
Waiters in white button-downs poured glasses of chardonnay and served meatballs wrapped with bacon. In one corner, guests posed with colorful boas and silly hats at a photo booth as a band played Jimmy Buffett covers to the rhythm of a steel drum. For a moment, the festive summer scene, in a hotel 10 miles from Walt Disney World, masked what had brought them all there.
This was the thriving business of campus safety, an industry fueled by an overwhelmingly American form of violence: school shootings.
All for lots of money. The question is, how many school districts – and their tax-paying supporters- are willing to come up with the $$$$ to increase school security?

A Plant So Hot Its Juices Destroy Nerve Endings
Hotter by far than the hottest Carolina Reaper, the world’s hottest pepper.
So, what’s the big deal about it?
But while that toxicity will lay up any mammal dumb enough to chew on the resin spurge, resiniferatoxin has also emerged as a promising painkiller. Inject RTX, as it’s known, into an aching joint, and it’ll actually destroy the nerve endings that signal pain. Which means medicine could soon get a new tool to help free us from the grasp of opioids.
Here’s the part that would thrill me endlessly:
So if you wanted to treat knee pain, you could directly inject RTX into the knee tissue. You’d anesthetize the patient first, of course, since the resulting pain would be intense. But after a few hours, that pain wears off, and you end up with a knee that’s desensitized to pain.
The only problem for me is that it apparently would do nothing to repair the cartilage loss that’s causing me so much pain.

Can Psychotherapy Help You Control Pain?
Okay, here’s a piece that states pain is as much in your head as it’s real in your body. Another faux cure hype? I have to wonder but it might help people wean themselves off of opiods.
Pain is a danger signal that also can warn of us tissue damage, but sometimes these danger signals can be activated in the absence of real danger,” says Alan Gordon, the director of the Los Angeles Pain Psychology Center, where Golson was treated. “It’s almost like a kinesthetic hallucination. It’s hard to not buy into these messages that your brain and your body are giving you.”
The goal of the therapy is to get the patients to reinterpret the sensations they feel as non-dangerous.
Yoga to cure your pain?
I don’t want to seem flippant, but there’s so much of this stuff out there that one has to be extremely careful to keep from being roped into a scam.

Can Pigs Save People Waiting for Organs?
I’ve know for many years that pigs contribute a lot to human health. They produce insulin for diabetics and do amazing things for skin grafts. In fact, I’ve read where they are amazingly close to human physiology. But, this article goes a bit further.
One day, you just might become one of the 20 Americans who die each day waiting for an organ. Indeed, forces that improve American health in other ways threaten to make the shortage of transplant organs even more acute: Safer vehicles cut into supply; longer life spans exacerbate demand. Even though 58 percent of adults in the United States have registered as donors, demand still outpaces supply and most likely always will.
Here are some of the current uses for pigs:
One consequence of xenotransplantation being always just around the corner is that pigs have been quietly insinuating their way into our bodies for some time now. Their pancreas glands have been used to make some types of insulin, and their intestinal tissue has been used to make the blood thinner heparin. Cardiac surgeons reach for pig heart valves to replace leaky and hardened human plumbing, and eye surgeons have affixed pig corneas to damaged human eyes. But a major organ — something that beats or filters or secretes just as well as it did for its donor — presents far greater challenges. Unless the recipient’s immune system is effectively deceived or suppressed, the incoming organ is destined for a very fleeting second act.
It’s all in the experimental stages right not but pigs are being bred to be able to replace organs needed by humans. More of the story is @ https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/11/14/magazine/tech-design-xenotransplantation.html

The First Lesson of Marriage 101: There Are No Soul Mates
Being in my fourth, I can totally agree with these headlines. Marriage is hard. After the rose colored glasses turn purple, human beings are just too complicated to get along without a lot of compromises and disappointments.
Research shows that practically every dimension of life happiness is influenced by the quality of one’s marriage, while divorce is the second most stressful life event one can ever experience.
Yet nearly half of all married couples are likely to divorce, and many couples report feeling unhappy in their relationships. Instructors of Northwestern University’s Marriage 101 class want to change that. The goal of their course is to help students have more fulfilling love relationships during their lives. In Marriage 101 popular books such as Mating in Captivity and For Better: The Science of a Good Marriage are interspersed with meaty academic studies. Students attend one lecture a week and then meet in smaller breakout groups to discuss the weekly topics, which range from infidelity to addiction, childrearing to sexuality in long-term relationships.
Maybe this is why so many modern couple are shunning the “I dos” and just shacking up instead. Easy to pack up and go without all the legal complications.
