Johnny Carson, Reddit, Senior Deals and so much more great stuff for February 12, 2019

NASTY! Nancy Pelosi busted secretly promising… WHAT!?
She didn’t get rich and powerful without backing from a whole lot of special interests. So, this shouldn’t surprise anyone.
Pelosi is reportedly working behind the scenes the undermine one of the biggest issues of the hard left.
That’s socialized medicine, aka the deeply unpopular Bernie Sanders-backed “Medicare for all” proposal that 2020 Democratic presidential candidates are falling all over themselves to endorse.
But in a meeting with insurance industry bigwigs, Pelosi adviser Wendell Primus was caught reassuring health insurance donors that a single-payer system will never happen under Pelosi’ watch.
The Intercept website obtained a presentation he delivered on how any such proposal would be DOA in a Pelosi-controlled House.

The Six Most Bizarre Proposals from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal
I’ve done my best to ignore this loony bimbo’s proposals but just couldn’t pass this up. If you haven’t paid attention too, check these out:
1) It calls for getting rid of airplanes:
2) It calls for getting rid of cows:
3) It calls for upgrading EVERY BUILDING IN THE UNITED STATES “to achieve maximum energy efficiency, water efficiency, safety, affordability, comfort, and durability, including through electrification:
4) It calls for the United States to be free of carbon emissions in 10 Years without the use of nuclear power:
5) We should get rid of gas-powered cars in a decade:
6) It promises “economic security” for those “unwilling to work:
I’m not about to read more as this idiocy is more than enough. Read the details @ https://rightwingnews.com/column-2/the-six-most-bizarre-proposals-from-alexandria-ocasio-cortezs-green-new-deal/

The 5 Biggest Widely Accepted Lies in Politics
Right along with the loons proposals comes the following claims from the Left. Does any same American believe any of them?
1. Immigration benefits America
2. The middle class is overtaxed
3. You could make just as good of an argument that America is a matriarchy as a patriarchy
4. Character doesn’t matter for politicians
5. Diversity is a strength
Well, on the surface, they seem to make a whole lot of sense. But, read deeper and you’ll see just what spin has been added to each.
As a little thought experiment, imagine two million people typical in every way except for the fact that they are green and they show up in every nation on earth. Within six months’ time, Democrats would declare that Republicans hate green people; a green Jesse Jackson would shake down corporations for being insufficiently supportive; BuzzFeed would run articles saying that America is full of hate because some 15-year-old white kid teased a green kid; Hulk movies would be banned and declared racist. All across the planet, the more diversity you see in culture, the more strife, bloodshed and, problems you see.

The 10 things Democrats hate (that Americans love)
If one watched the State of the Union address, one could not miss when the Dims refused to applaud. It clearly showed their true colors. This lays out just a very few of the things they can’t deal with:
Unemployment has reached the lowest rate in half a century” in 2018, President Trump said, proudly.
Silence.
African-American, Hispanic-American and Asian-American unemployment have all reached their lowest levels ever recorded,” he said.
You could’ve heard a pin drop.
The Congressional Black Caucus sat on their hands. So did Hispanic Democrats and Asian-American Democrats.
Wages are “growing for blue collar workers…faster than anyone else,” President Trump continued, but tumbleweeds could have rolled through the Democratic side of Congress.
Cleaning up one of Obama’s most shameful messes—and there were a lot of them—got no love from the Left, either.
When Trump said “we can finally terminate those who mistreat our wonderful veterans” in the VA system, the Democrats didn’t even look up from the ground.
Democrats even scowled at programs they asked for.
Trump surprised them by announcing that he supported paid family leave…something Democrats support and most Republicans oppose.
Democratic women wearing all-white sat on their hands. That’s what you get for being “bipartisan,” Mr. Trump.
When all was said and done, the only thing Congressional Democrats would applaud was themselves.
When Trump surprised them again—by noting that more women were serving in Congress than ever before—they broke out into a standing ovation that lasted 51 seconds, cheering for themselves!

Beto O’Rourke to Lead Competing Rally When Trump Speaks on Monday Night
I can’t wait to see how the media covers this. Do you think they will show his turnout compared to the president’s.
Don’t hold your breath.

Border Wall Construction Set to Begin in Rio Grande Valley, Texas, in Next Few Days
And there isn’t a thing the open border Dimocraps can do about it!
Heavy machinery has started to roll in near the National Butterfly Center, which straddles the Mexican border.
Customs and Border Protection has positioned vehicles in Mission, Texas.
And construction workers and architects have started plotting out their work for the next few months, and possibly years.

Texas Police Form Wall of Vehicles to Help Border Patrol Stop Caravan Migrants
I wonder if the organizers are going to divert the herd to New Mexico or other areas lacking real border security.
Police are lining up their vehicles near Eagle Pass, Texas, to help Border Patrol agents stop the illegal crossing of caravan migrants who arrived in the Mexican border town of Piedras Negras last week. Texas Governor Greg Abbott deployed an additional Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers to the region to assist in securing the border section that has no physical barriers to prevent illegal crossings.

Coming to Terms with America’s Undeniable Failure in Afghanistan
It wasn’t the fault of our military guys and gals on the ground. It was the idiots who think they can drag 8th Century tribal leaders and their followers into the 21st Century. The Taliban continues to take ground from the central government for the simple reason that they are Muslim fundamentalists, what the Afghan people have been taught to believe in from birth.
These failures of the Afghan security forces have been attributed to the Afghans, and not those tasked with training the force. As Gen. John Campbell, the commander in Afghanistan prior to Nicholson, remarked to Afghan leadership as he was departing Afghanistan in early 2016, “You’ve got to want it more than we do.” Never considered, however, was that maybe the Afghans want peace as much, or even more, than visiting Americans, but that our chosen path to achieving peace is incompatible with Afghan culture and unachievable given internal political divisions and the state of the Afghan government.
There is a lot more to this and most of it ignores the real reason for the failure. If you care to, read more @ https://warontherocks.com/2019/02/coming-to-terms-with-americas-undeniable-failure-in-afghanistan/

South Korea to Pay More for US Forces in Its Borders
Another promise kept by our president. Will we see the same in Japan? We’ve already seen that NATO countries are paying more.
Officials signed a short-term agreement on Sunday to boost South Korea's contribution toward the upkeep of U.S. troops on the peninsula, after a previous deal lapsed amid U.S. President Donald Trump's call for the South to pay more.
About 28,500 U.S. troops are stationed in South Korea, where the United States has maintained a military presence since the 1950-53 Korean War.
The new deal must still be approved by South Korea's parliament, but it would boost its contribution to 1.03 trillion won ($890 million) from 960 billion won in 2018.
Unlike past agreements, which lasted for five years, this one is scheduled to expire in a year, potentially forcing both sides back to the bargaining table within months.

What a College Teaches our Youth
Take a good look at that. “Violent acts are acceptable”
What the hell are professors teaching our youth? No wonder we have Antifa and violent demonstrations from the left.
The big question is; what can be done about it?
Contemporary higher education is Western civilization’s fifth column. It indebts our young people. It marinates them in a violent hatred of their past and of their present in order to deprive them of their future. And it doesn’t just steal their future by turning them into civilizational sappers–it reduces their lifetime fertility more than anything else in society.
It also teaches them that they can ignore the massive debts they run up in learning that stuff.

Johnny Carson Teaches Modern Late Night Hosts a Lesson About Getting Political
He was always on at a time when my eyes drooped so much it was hard to watch him.
But he was funny!
And he always had great talent.
Was there a secret for his success? I suppose plenty. His timing was impeccable and he knew how to save a bad routine. He had a great eye for talent and he knew how to make the viewer feel welcome. Part of that last part, it could be argued, was the fact that he was about as ecumenical as a host could be.
For all you knew, Johnny Carson could have secretly been a member of the John Birch Society or the Weather Underground. He’d never let on.
This article also provides a CBS piece by Mike Wallace taking Carson to task. It is well-worth reading and shows exactly why I and other like me will have nothing to do with the current crop of late night hosts.

Reddit: Censorship fears spark criticism of Tencent funding reports
With Google+ closing down in April, there aren’t a whole lot of alternatives available. MeWe is still a bit new and somewhat awkward. And, while Reddit has lots and lots of forums and subforums, it has the problem of moderators with unlimited authority to shut down anyone they don’t like.
The platform has 330 million active users and describes itself as the "Front Page of the Internet".
Taipei-based independent tech analyst Sam Reynolds said while some skepticism of Chinese technology firms was "warranted," Tencent did not pose any risk to Reddit.
"Tencent has invested in hundreds of companies and there's been little involvement or interest from China's state apparatus."
Mr Reynolds added that Reddit "simply isn't on the radar of censors".

Stop using Internet Explorer, warns Microsoft's own security chief
I didn’t even know we were able to access it. My latest Windows10 update enhanced Edge and, as much as I’m not thrilled with it, it’s my secondary browser.
As it stands, I only use it to do one of my daily crossword puzzles.
In a blog post, Mr Jackson warned that companies using Internet Explorer are taking on a “technical debt” to pay for support on old software and could end up using “a 1999 implementation of web standards” if they didn’t take all the necessary measures to update it when creating new web pages.
