Election 2020: It’s the Crowds, Stupid! President Trump Trolls Rep Tlaib, The US is set to drown the world in oil, Where is FBI Director Wray? Government telling you how to heat/cool your home, and even more for August 24, 2019

Election 2020: It’s the Crowds, Stupid!
Blue state New Hampshire and she barely gets 700 to turn out for her.
DeBlasio had 15 and Biden managed to get 30, probably including his staff.
Remember Clinton’s slogan? “It’s the economy, stupid!”
httImage credit: YouTube shareable video, screen shot
Meanwhile, someone else had 11,000 enthusiastic followers inside and countless more outside watching on big screens.
Despite CNN’s constant contention that “President Trump is on the ropes,” remember that “it’s the crowd, stupid.”

Illegal Workers Flee Georgia Food Plants After Mississippi ICE Raids
Sometimes the threats of raids are as effective as the actual ones.
Illegal workers fled a number of Georgia food processing plants this past week after highly-publicized raids by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency at five Mississippi plants.
I sure see a lot of familiar names on that map. The Koch brothers? Big-time GOP donors. Hiring illegals? That can’t be true. Can it?
As Breitbart News reported, only 11 employers and no businesses have been federally prosecuted for hiring illegal aliens in the last year despite there being nearly eight million illegal alien workers holding American jobs at companies in the U.S.

FTC chief sees obstacle to splitting up Facebook
Social network's effort to merge WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram may help keep the company together too, FTC chief tells the Financial Times.
I previously posted the article where the FTC is considering an effort to break up Facebook, Twitter, Google, and others. It seemed an impossibility to me then and this appears to confirm that.
Facebook's plan to merge WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram could hamper any attempt to break up the social media giant, the chairman of the Federal Trade Commission believes. Joseph Simmons told the Financial Times that all options are on the table as it conducts an antitrust investigation of the company, but combing the three major brands could complicate things.
"If they're maintaining separate business structures and infrastructure, it's much easier to have a divestiture in that circumstance than in where they're completely enmeshed and all the eggs are scrambled," he told the Financial Times.
This also added the following:
The US Department of Justice is also looking at antitrust concerns regarding tech companies such as Facebook, Apple, Google and Amazon.

President Trump Meme on Greenland
He promises not to do that and the Left goes gaga.
Here’s what’s already there:

President Trump Trolls Tlaib
Rep. Tlaib wrote a letter to Israeli officials desperately wanting to visit her grandmother. Permission was quickly granted, whereupon Tlaib obnoxiously turned the approval down, a complete setup. The only real winner here is Tlaib’s grandmother. She doesn’t have to see her now!
Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 16, 2019
And here comes the response:
"The Resistance," predictably, lost it. "Trump Drags Rashida Tlaib's Grandma Into His Latest Twitter Attack," a Huff Post headline read. "The president decided to comment on Tlaib's decision Friday afternoon in the kind, empathetic manner for which he's famous with a really jerky comment that referenced her grandmother," the piece said.
"The occupant of the White House's total lack of humanity is on full display," political activist and comedy writer Nick Jack Pappas replied to Trump's tweet.

One of the greatest inventions of the 20th Century
Not the actual peeler itself but the handle. Designed for people with arthritis. The device was supposedly invented in 1928 in France.
The different types of handles considered is amazing.
And they continue to come up with more.
This is a story about the guy who came up with the latest style, the inventive and marketing process.

The US is set to drown the world in oil
A staggering 61% of the world’s new oil and gas production over the next decade is set to come from one country alone: the United States.
And globalists, along with eco-freaks, are whining that it will continue to destroy the world’s weather. More man-made Globull Warming alarms.
Output is set to be so vast that if US states were treated as countries, Texas is forecast to be the biggest producer of new oil and gas in its own right, with production nearly four times that of Canada.
Seven out of the top 10 biggest oil and gas producers would be US states, with only Canada, Brazil and Russia making it onto the list. Pennsylvania is set to be the third largest producer of new oil and gas, producing more than double that of Russia.
And here it comes!
The recent National Climate Assessment starkly laid out the risks the US faces from climate change. These include more extreme temperatures, rainfall, high tides, coastal flooding and forest fires, as well as worsening air quality, all threatening the health and wellbeing of the American people. These risks are highest for those that are already vulnerable, including low-income communities, some communities of color, children, and the elderly. The financial costs are staggering too, under a high emissions scenario where the world fails to mitigate climate change costs to the US economy could exceed $500 billion a year by 2090.
Got it?

Trump: 'I am the chosen one' to take on China
The media just loves to take the president’s comments out of context.
I wonder if he says this stuff on purpose, just to troll them.
Here’s the full context of the comment:
Trump told reporters his life would be easier if he had not mounted a trade war with China. But he defended his actions and said he believed a trade deal between the world’s largest economies was still possible.
I am the chosen one ... so I am taking on China. I’m taking on China on trade. And you know what? We’re winning,” Trump said, claiming a title often used to refer to religious figures such Jesus and Mohammed.
Those are the author’s words, not the president’s.
And, from what I saw in the video, he said it with a touch of irony, something the Left will never understand.

Astronauts prepare to go into space in commercial capsule
After years of hitching a ride on Russian rockets, Americans are getting close to going there on American-made rockets and capsules. The Starliner was scheduled for this month but has been delayed to at least the end of the year.
SpaceX is also compete with its reusable Falcon rockets and Dragon supply capsules.
The Starship is due to take passengers to the International Space Station in 2020.
Ferguson, a former NASA astronaut and retired U.S. Navy captain, who helped design the way the crew interacts with the automated Boeing CST-100 Starliner, will lead its maiden voyage.
NASA astronauts Nicole Mann and Mike Fincke will be part of the crew. It will be Mann’s first trip into space and she’s a fomer Navy combat pilot. Fincke has been into space 3 times.
And if SpaceX got there first?
I would be very happy for them. Who brings it home is unimportant, but the fact that it gets home is most important. And I would be very proud of Doug (Hurley, a NASA astronaut training to fly aboard SpaceX’s Crew Dragon space craft), although he’s going to lose.”
A personal comment here. The media really isn’t doing a very good job of covering the ISS or efforts to return American equipment to space. We are not just learning what life in zero gravity is like, but many experiments will have amazing uses here on earth. This is not money being thrown away on foolish efforts. It is a vital investment in the future of Mankind.

Pig to human heart transplants 'possible within three years'
Not swine organs but human organs grown in swine. And this would be just the start of many other efforts to grow human organs for transplant.
If the result of xenotransplantation is satisfactory with porcine kidneys to humans, then it is likely that hearts would be used with good effects in humans within a few years,” the 87-year-old said. “If it works with a kidney, it will work with a heart. That will transform the issue.”
The anatomy and physiology of a pig’s heart is similar to that of a human’s, so they are used as models for developing new treatments. Hopes for a successful heart attack treatment were raised in May after a genetic therapy showed promise in pigs.
An international team of researchers, including UK scientists, found that delivering a small piece of genetic material called microRNA-199 into a heart damaged by an attack caused cells to regenerate.

White House scraps plan to seek return of unspent foreign aid
We voted for it. You spend it.”
That’s the message from “key Congressional figures” over the administration’s decision to return almost $4 billion in unspent foreign aid.
A senior administration official, who requested anonymity to discuss internal deliberations, said the White House was persuaded not to move forward after hearing from lawmakers from both parties.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who fought the cuts, sounded an air of caution while traveling in Ottawa on a diplomatic visit that the fight over the rescissions was over.
"With respect to rescission, the president is still contemplating," he told reporters. "What I have consistently said, with respect to every penny, the State Department spends, including our foreign assistance budget, we've got to get it right and make sure we're using it in ways that are effective."
I wonder if Pmpeo’s dislike of the effort will cost him with the president.

Trump signs exec order to streamline student loan debt forgiveness for disabled vets
I don’t know if I’m okay with this. Seems to me that if one takes out a loan for an eduction, they’re obligated to repay it. Disability factor should not play a role.
"For the last decade, veterans seeking loan discharges have been required to submit an application to the Secretary of Education with proof of their disabilities obtained from the Department of Veterans Affairs," reads the Presidential Memorandum.
"The process has been overly complicated and difficult, and prevented too many of our veterans from receiving the relief for which they are eligible. This has inflicted significant hardship and serious harm on these veterans and has frustrated the intent of the Congress that their Federal student loan debt be discharged."
The executive order is designed to fix that by streamlining the process, and shifting the responsibility from eligible veterans, to the Departments of Veterans Affairs and Education.
Seems to be a bit of a PR stunt here. Veterans have dozens of service groups to turn to when seeking things from the governmen. Disables Vets. Vietnam Vets. This list goes on an on. Volunteers do nothing but find way to help vets. So, to claim it’s “too complicated” seems to be a bit of a stretch to me.

Secretary of the Navy calls for review of JAG, including Marines
The Navy has pie in its face after losing the Gallagher courts-martial.
"There is value in applying this review and its subsequent recommendations across the Department of the Navy," Cmdr. Jereal Dorsey told Task & Purpose. "The review's purpose is to confirm the uniformed legal community is structurally and organizationally sound and best supporting the good order and discipline our integrated naval force."
In his Aug. 21 memo, Spencer wrote that the Navy and Marine Corps will provide recommendations about whether any policies, authorities, and statues need to be updated and whether any "corrective actions" are necessary.
Both the Navy and the Marine Corps have 15 days to explain how they will conduct their reviews and 90 days to provide Spencer with the results, the memo says.
I could never figure out how this or some other cases came to be. The Uniformed Code of Judicial Conduct is as clear as a bell on investigations and how charges are filed. And by whom. There is a strict chain of command on each level and I can only think that some commanders have been blind-sided by their advisors.
I wonder if the review will find out who did what and why.

Where is FBI Director Wray?
Seems he’s missed a whole lot of staff meetings.
Wray’s whereabouts during key FBI meetings have been unknown by most subordinates and likewise hidden from the public but his deputies are running the show.
They say he’s trying to keep as much of the declassified FISA materials secret and deleting content from the DOJ IG report.
What’s he afraid of?
So who is running the FBI while Wray is busy burrying its suspected crimes? Or does it even matter?
The growing sentiment in the intelligence community is Wray is merely a placeholding puppet for the politicized FBI bureacrats — many whom have been fired — who helped destroy the reputation of the FBI. And broke many laws in the process.
Wray has not made any sweeping reforms to improve the Bureau, which is in worse shape than when he took the job to supposedly fix it.

DNC chairman begging for cash
He says they can’t win if they don’t match or exceed the donations the RNC and Trump campaign are raking in.
According to the Washington Examiner, DNC Chairman Tom Perez sent an email to supporters where he called the recently released record-breaking fundraising numbers from the Republican National Committee (RNC) “daunting” and called for Democratic donors to “turn up the heat” on their fundraising efforts to stop the party’s candidates across the nation from being “overwhelmed by the GOP’s money machine.”
And he added this;
He went on to say that the person who has been chosen to run for the party in the 2020 presidential election would not “stand a chance” against the president and the Republican “fundraising machine” without more money.
Is The Clown Car siphoning off money that would otherwise go into DNC coffers?

Michigan teachers given 2-day propaganda session on Islam
And the taxpayers paid for it.
Concerned about a two-day mandatory teacher-training seminar on Islam conducted by a Muslim consultant hired by Michigan’s Novi Community Schools District, TMLC filed a Freedom of Information Act request for documents related to the workshop.
Richard Thompson, president and chief counsel of the Law Center, commented on the results of their investigation, “We found that the teachers were subjected to two days of Islamic propaganda, where Islam was glorified, Christianity disparaged, and America bashed—all funded by Novi taxpayers.”
Moreover, during the past five years the school district has presented no teacher-training seminars focusing on Christianity, Judaism or any other religion – only Islam.
And they will claim it all has to do with cultural diversification and understanding.

Government telling you how to heat/cool your home
When I lived in the barracks, the temperature was set and there was nothing we could do to change it. Now, the powers-to-be want to tell you how to heat and cool your homes. I wonder how many of these smart meters have been installed in business places.
Fox 5 NY  is reporting that Energy Star, a federal program managed jointly by the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency that provides information to consumers about energy efficiency is asking consumers to keep their temperatures set at 78 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.
According to Energy Star, keeping your central air thermostat set to 78 degrees is optimal for both cooling and energy efficiency, but this recommendation only applies to the times when you are home.
While you are away from the house during the day, you should keep the thermostat set to 85 degrees or higher.
While you sleep, Energy Star recommends keeping the temperature set at 82 degrees or higher.
We keep our home set at 79 all the time. (And I still have to put on a long-sleeve shirt or sweater because of the cold air blasting on me.)

President Trump challenges birthright citizenship
And the furor starts.
It all hinges on the 14th Amendment to the constitution.
But, it comes down to how it’s interpreted.
In a interview with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson in July, Michael Anton, a former Trump national security adviser, pointed out:
"there’s a clause in the middle of the amendment that people ignore or they misinterpret -- subject to the jurisdiction thereof…
"What they are saying is, if you are born on U.S. soil subject to the jurisdiction of the United States -- meaning you’re the child of citizens or the child of legal immigrants, then you are entitled to citizenship. “If you are here illegally, if you owe allegiance to a foreign nation, if you’re the citizen of a foreign country, that clause does not apply to you.”
And it’s something that bothers me to no end. How can an illegal suddenly gain constitutional rights? If they’re not here legally or are citizens, how do our most basic rights serve them?
Speaking to reporters outside the White House on Wednesday, President Trump again threatened to end what he called the "ridiculous" policy of birthright citizenship, which awards citizenship automatically to those born in the United States.
"We're looking at that very seriously," Trump told reporters as he left the White House for Kentucky. "Birthright citizenship, where you have a baby on our land -- you walk over the border, have a baby, congratulations, the baby's now a U.S. citizen. We're looking at it very, very seriously ...It’s, frankly, ridiculous."
The question is; what can he realistically do about it?

Another political stunt by a Dim gone bad. Who gives them this advice? Or do they come up with it themselves?
Democrat Joaquin Castro pulled a cheap political trick today when he posted the list of the 2019 maximum donors to President Trump from San Antonio on Twitter.
He’s not doing Julian, his brother who is running for president, any favors.
The response wasn’t what he expected.
Twitter is on fire right now with people from both sides of the aisle who are against the doxing of the Trump donors.

Congress may appropriate but it’s up to the president to spend it.

Top general says SpaceX may have just changed space defense
A top American general told a defense conference in Alabama today that Elon Musk’s SpaceX may have just “completely changed our ability” to sense threats against America using satellite clusters in space.
Holy smokes. Talk about being able to move the ball,” Air Force Gen. Terrence O’Shaughnessy said of the May 23 launch by Space X of 60 small satellites at one time.
NASA may have gone out of the rocket business but private companies are stepping up and outdoing themselves. Reusable boosters and becoming very close to producing vehicles to carry humans back into space.
SpaceX says “Star Link” was the first step in “a next-generation satellite network capable of connecting the globe, especially reaching those who are not yet connected, with reliable and affordable broadband internet services.” However, the company regularly competes for military satellite launches and now has a new skill clearly attracting Pentagon attention.

Chicago hospital stopped accepting patients because the city had too many shooting victims
While all the Leftist are accusing conservatives of all sorts of vile things about the continued massacre in places like Chicago and Baltimore, the facts remain.
Innocent – and targeted – people are bleeding and dying in the streets.
Chicago’s Mount Sinai Hospital had to redirect patients coming via ambulance to neighboring trauma centers over the weekend due to the excessive number of shootings on the city’s west side.
Mount Sinai Hospital, one of five trauma centers in Chicago, had reached max capacity, forcing them to temporarily turn patients away after seven were killed and 46 injured in shootings over the weekend, CBS Chicago News 2 reported.
At one point, the hospital peaked with 12 patients in trauma, CNN reported.
But, never mind. According to the Left, we normal Americans simply don’t care.
However, who is it that never reports stuff like this?

Who Broke Baltimore?
We Did.
Baltimore’s decline isn’t an accident. It took decades of government intervention and hundreds of millions of dollars.
The article starts off by attacking President Trump forTweeting that Cumming’s district is a disgusting, rodent and rat infested mess,” “very dangerous and filthy,” “the Worst in the USA.”
No human being,” he wrote, “would want to live there.”
And then it declares:
To be clear: The president does not know anything, or care, about the city of Baltimore. He doesn’t know the history of segregation that shaped it, and he doesn’t care what’s behind the near-pornographic images of urban apartheid on his TV screen that seem to have been the original inspiration for his Twitter bombast.
So it totally blows me away when the article says,
It’s true, too, that these arrangements are deliberate. The cities we have are the cities we’ve built: They reflect our choices and embody our values. If they are toxic, it’s because we make them so. And for more than a century now, the chief orderly administering a slow drip of poison into Baltimore’s veins has been the government itself.
Got that? “The government itself.”
And they targeted these areas because blacks had moved into them.
The lesson here: We have spent hundreds of millions of dollars, and more than 100 years, turning Baltimore into the “rat infested mess” President Trump thinks he sees when he looks at it. We did this because people like President Trump decided the government’s job was to enrich white people—like his son-in-law, a Baltimore slumlord—on the backs of black people, and so we built a government that would do just that. In this regard, what Trump called “King Elijah’s Baltimore Fail” isn’t a failure at all. On the contrary, Baltimore is working just as it was designed to.
People like President Trump.”
Bias, anyone?
And the author lives in Seattle.
Why is it that slums are filled with welfare blacks? Why not welfare whites?
Oh yeah. We got that. According to Shrillary, all the welfare whites live in trailer parks and are deplorable Trump supporters.

Pro-Trump Activist, Volunteers Collect 12 Tons of Trash in West Baltimore
Did any of the locals show up to help out?
"If the city was not going to help us clean up trash, well — by golly — we went out there with 170 volunteers.
We cleaned up 12 tons of trash in 12 hours."

#ThePersistence (@ScottPresler) August 7, 2019
But the Baltimore Sun editorial board was offended by the effort and sent out a critical tweet about it.
Whatever he says his motives were, Scott Presler’s presence in Baltimore reinforces the tired image that the poor people in this city can’t take care of their own neighborhoods,” the Sun tweeted.
We assume it was pure motives that led a Trump supporter to launch a clean-up in Cummings’ district,” the Sun tweet said. “Conservatives cleaning up a Baltimore neighborhood makes for a good photo opp, but does little to address the real problems.”
Call us skeptical,” the editorial in the newspaper said about Presler’s claim that the event was not political:
I wonder how long it was until it was back like before.

Big Pharma is using faux generics to keep drug prices high
Here’s an example:
High-profile examples of authorized generics include Mylan’s cheaper form of its EpiPen, a life-saving epinephrine autoinjector that curbs deadly allergic reactions. In 2016, under political and public pressure to lower drug prices, Mylan introduced the authorized generic of EpiPen priced at $300 for a two-pack. That’s half the price of a two-pack of the brand-name version, which has a list price of around $600. But it’s still a staggering hike from EpiPen’s original cost of around $50 per injector in 2007. That year, Mylan bought the rights to EpiPen and then raised the price more than 400% in the years that followed. The authorized generic is essentially triple the price of what two injectors used to cost.
Got that? The original cost was $50 per.
So, how do they get away with it?
"It’s a parlor trick," the executive added. "They’re bending to political pressure, but are they taking any money out of the system? They’re not."
And, as others have noted, the price is still wildly inflated. A vial of brand-name Humalog has a list price of $55 in Germany, for instance. In 2001—before Lilly began hiking the price—the list price for a vial of Humalog in the US was $35.

How Democrats want to limit drug prices @
Wanna guess how?
Goverernment controls the drugs.
Government seizes the patents for the drugs
Government determines the price of the drugs

Value-based pricing
Government regulates price increases

More People Killed by Hammers, Clubs than with Rifles of Any Kind
So, lets demand background checks on anyone who goes to a hardware store.
Breitbart News reported the most recent numbers–those for 2017–on September 26, 2018. Those figures showed that 467 people were killed with “blunt objects (hammers, clubs, etc.),” while 403 were killed with rifles.
The report also showed 1,591 people were killed with “knives or cutting instruments.
Lets do the same with anyone buying sharp instruments.

Ex-Inmate says “No way” Epstein killed himself
Of course he speaks out on conditions of anonymity. But, it all makes a lot of sense.
I’ve done too much time in those units. It’s an impossibility,” the former inmate, who spent time in MCC’s special housing unit, where Epstein was held, told the Post.
The former inmate explained the physical dimensions of the special housing unit cells, in addition to secluded inmates not possessing any items transformable into an “instrument of death,” prevented Epstein from harming himself.
They don’t give you enough in there that could successfully create an instrument of death. You want to write a letter, they give you rubber pens and maybe once a week a piece of paper,” the former inmate said.
Could he have done it from the bed? No sir. There’s a steel frame, but you can’t move it. There’s no light fixture. There’s no bars,” he explained. “You have sheets, but they’re paper level, not strong enough. He was 200 pounds — it would never happen.”
Of course, one has to await the results of the official autopsy to know exactly how he died.
What gets me are all the calls for an “investigation” into the death. As if it’s just going to be ignored by the authorities.

Why Drinking Water All Day Long Is Not the Best Way to Stay Hydrated
If you’re drinking water and then, within two hours, your urine output is really high and [your urine] is clear, that means the water is not staying in well,” says David Nieman, a professor of public health at Appalachian State University and director of the Human Performance Lab at the North Carolina Research Campus. Nieman says plain water has a tendency to slip right through the human digestive system when not accompanied by food or nutrients. This is especially true when people drink large volumes of water on an empty stomach. “There’s no virtue to that kind of consumption,” he says.
I always pay attention. Because I drink so much coffee and diet tea, I rarely have clear urine.
In fact, clear urine is a sign of “overhydration,” according to the Cleveland Clinic. And some of the latest research supports Nieman’s claim that guzzling lots of water is not the best way to stay hydrated.
But, here in Vegas when the temp stays over 100F for days on end, bottled water is everywhere.
Also worth paying attention to the need to Nosh when drinking so much.

Is It Possible to Stop a Mass Shooting Before It Happens?
Sure, Take away guns from all those who shouldn’t have them – according to Leftists. And they get to determine who that is.
The Savant
An elite investigator who tracks angry men online, she’s known to some in her field as the Savant because of her uncanny ability to suss out when, exactly, hate speech will morph into violent action. She came across Finton’s Myspace profile in 2007 and was disturbed by what she saw: videos of Islamic extremists carrying out brutal killings alongside quotes glorifying religious martyrdom. The page gave her a primal, hairs-on-end feeling that she’d learned not to ignore.
Why not angry women?
While the story is interesting, the point is clear. There are a multitude of warning signs that should alert authorities and prospective targets ahead of time.
But, at what point does such screening violate individual rights?
And, if a suspect is identified, what can legally be done?
Read the story if you’re interested but it doesn’t answer my questions.

Here's How to Get Over Social Media Obligation
Overwhelmed by staying in touch with all of your online friends? Here's how to stop liking and start living.
They never seem to put the darned things down. Nothing sadder than seeing a group at a table with their nose in devices instead of person-to-person interchanges.
Here’s what the author says to do:
Determine why you’re using social media
Make your time online count
Filter your online connections
Use social media features to do your dirty work
And put the darned thing away when you’re socializing in reality.

How the television transformed our homes
TV’s entry into our living spaces began a nationwide conversation about where the sets should go and how they should look
Lord but this hits home. I grew up seeing these.
This article is all about the physical impact of the Boob Tube on our lives. It doesn’t deal with the interpersonal one. Just like hand-held devices, TVs have changed the interpersonal exchanges that were one the nuggets of family and friends.

Want to Fall in Love With Your Partner Again?
Love is more than a feeling; it’s a choice.
I’m not going to post all 36. That’s up to you if you’re interested.
Here are the first five:
1. Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest?
2. Would you like to be famous? In what way?
3. Before making a telephone call, do you ever rehearse what you are going to say? Why?4. What would constitute a "perfect" day for you?
5. When did you last sing to yourself? To someone else?
The remainder are interesting. But, it seems to me that asking all of these in one sessions isn’t the best thing to do. Take your time and select the ones you think are most important.

What’s the Difference Between Pickling, Brining, Marinating, and Curing?
It all comes down to salt versus acid
I remember my grandmother doing some of this stuff when I was a kid. But, I never paid much attention to it.
Today?
SO, to debrief:
Brining = preserving and/or flavoring with salt
Marinating = preserving and/or flavoring with acid
Pickling = preserving with salt (fermented pickles) or preserving with acid (unfermented pickles)
Curing = all of the above

The Coast Guard’s Polar Star
43 years old and often in deep trouble for lack of spare parts to repair aging equipment. Supply types have had to scour eBay and other sites to get things to keep her going.
This is the story of her once-yearly trip from Seattle to Antarctica.
While Russia will soon have more than 50 icebreakers, the fire-engine-red ship lumbers on as a Cold War relic.
I love this part:
A petty officer who used a surfboard repair kit to fix a generator, saving the ship from encroaching ice, received an award from the Coast Guard commandant.
